Indian airline redefines no frills air travel

October 2nd, 2007 by Tim Uden

If you thought that budget airlines like Ryanair offered a pretty basic service, then this new Indian airline redefines the idea of no-frills. For starters the toilets don’t work and the air-conditioning runs off a generator; oh, and the plane is missing a wing.

But in a country where 99% of people have never set foot in a plane, the novelty of pretending to take a flight is enough to get people to pay the £2 (AUD $4.59/USD$4.08) for a flight that never leaves the ground. The journey involves the usual safety demonstration and announcements from the pilot warning passengers of turbulence and flight attendants serve meals on airline trays.

And what do the passengers think of paying to eat pre-packaged re-heated food in cramped seats in a plane with only one wing and non-functioning toilets? “It is much more beautiful than I ever imagined”; says Jasmine, a teacher from Dehli.
