Can anyone recommend the optimum size for a daypack?

Im planning to be travelling for at least 6 months.

My backpackpack is 75 Litre's. I recently bought a 30 Litre daypack which looked fine in the shop but looks a bit too big now ive got it home, should I get something smaller?

Some people recommend making sure you can fit a fully packed daypack inside your backpack, but Ive also read that a lot of people carry daypacks on their front to balance the weight of their backpack.

I'd appreciate some advice!

I had a really small daypack, just for carrying my LP book, water and snacks. Even then I got sick of carrying it around. Smaller is better. When my daypack got nicked I was glad to lose the weight.

Thanks for the advice. I think my 30 Litre will be going back to the shop this weekend.

Think Ive found the perfect daypack (for me anyway). The Eagle Creek Packable Daypack, extremely light and comes with a little pouch which it packs away into when not in use.

Wow! A 75 litre backpack plus a 30 litre daypack. That's 105 litres!

My biggest backpack is 35 litres and I normally pack my daypack inside that when I'm travelling.

Realised my mistake, took the 30L back. The Eagle Creek packable is only about 10L and fits inside the 75L (fortunately).
