Default Travel Luggage & Airport Weight Restrictions

I am designing a new travel suitcase as a final year university project aimed at reducing weight & maximising space.

What type of luggage do you use when travelling? Suit case, Holdall, Rucsac?

Why did you choose this type of luggage?

What types of travelling fo you do? City breaks, island hopping, regular hoildays, Treking etc?

What would improve your luggage? easier access? No zips? better wheels?

Anyone got any ideas to solve any luggage problems/ neat ideas?

Your feedback would be much appreciated, and you may also pick up a thing or two along the way

Default Needs to be light...

light is the keyword. I have some big bags, they are so heavy, if i fill them half way, airline will say it's too heavy. The bag itself needs to be very very light. Good luck.

A lightweight top-loading rucksack (about 45 litres) with secure lockable main compartment.

The exterior shouldn't have any loops that get caught on things and ideally the harness should be able to be covered so it doesn't get caught, but there should not be any zips (the bag is useless if the zip breaks).

The whole thing should weigh less that 1kg. It definitely shouldn't have wheels - I'm a backpacker not a tourist! Besides wheels add weight.

The harness doesn't need to be too complex but it should sit away from your body so your back doesn't get all sweaty.

A top-loading rucksack is more comfortable to carry, more rugged and generally less-cumbersome than a hybrid travel pack, but rucksacks on the market are not secure and are designed primarily for the outdoor market with features that are not practical for intercity travel. Design a good travel rucksack and I will consider buying one.
