Default Travel insurance

I'm a British citizen, have lived in the UK all my life, but have spent the last 10 months travelling around Asia, Australia and South America. I would now like to return to Australia but cannot get travel insurance because I am not classed as UK resident as I haven't lived in the UK for 6 out of the last 12 months. However, I haven't lived in any country for that length of time so apparently don't have residency anywhere?!

Has anyone come across this problem before and know of any travel insurance companies who would insure me for my next trip?

Eh? I've certainly never heard of this before. I would have thought that if you are British citizen you would be entitled to insurance regardless of how long you've recently spent in another country.

Are you sure you're not confusing this clause with that of international applicants? To me this reads like you are entitled to insurance if you are a foreign resident in the UK, ie you are not a British national but have legally lived in the UK for six of the last 12 months (making you a UK citizen, regardless of nationality)

I would double check the terms and conditions on this. Have you tried STA?

Unfortunately this is actually quite common. He is a citizen but not a resident and that's where the problem lies. There are some companies that do insure in this situations but I don't have any url's bookmarked at the moment. I'll have time to do some googling this weekend and see if I can remember the name of the company I've used before.

I know this is a bit naughty, but why let them know that you're not resident in the UK any more? You're just shooting yourself in the foot giving that info away. Just pretend you've lived with your mom/friend/granny/ and leave it at that. How are they going to prove otherwise.

Good luck!

F1 drivers do something similar, from their homes in tax-free Monaco!

Although that's a nice problem to have! :-)

There are some useful names to try, here:
