Default Choosing a Backpack: to carry or drag

What kind of backpack/ luggage do you like to use while traveling Europe? If you are planning a trip for the first time and don't really know what kind of luggage would be best you may want to read this article. For me a good internal frame pack is the best choice but what do you think?

Personally, I didn't want to carry around my huge backpack, but there were times when it was crucial! Having one big enough for all my stuff (which was minimal) plus whatever I picked up along the way was important. There were even points along the trip where I bought an extra smaller bag (no food for a few days) to carry some extras.. And then there were times where the small bags were tosses along with some clothes as it got warmer outside.

My family still laughs at how I pack. For a trip of less than I week I use a plastic safeway bag. For 1 to 2 months, a 10 L school backpack. For 1 year +, a 30 L backpack. I can't even imagine why anyone would want a 75 L pack. I just don't have that much stuff.

I want a pack that I can bring along that has all my essentials. But I aslo want one pack that I can bring my non-important stuff with. So that weights about.. bringing a small one and a big one. eek!

I hauled a guitar through far too many countries and really wish I had used that time to learn mandolin instead.

I also carry a guitar with me whenever I travel around. It just a very good companion for me to keep me memories of my places and the places that I have visited.
