You'll never look like a Parisian. Even if you go there and buy all of the best designer clothes from the expensive stores there you won't look like a Parisian. They have a natural sense of style that can not be matched.
Relax and have fun. You are going to be a tourist.

If you're really concerned about your appearance don't use the caps-lock and multiple question marks.

I would avoid white shoes (ie: sneakers/trainers) and shorts. Many French people regard this as something to wear only when playing sport. Also avoid wearing a t-shirt with the word "Michigan" in large type or anything else indicating where you are from.

A black turtle neck and a scarf is very French, but that's not really practical in the middle of summer.

Just stick with something simple like jeans and a plain t-shirt (and a jacket in the evening) but with comfortable sensible looking leather shoes. You won't have the same style as a Parisian but you'll look less like a tourist.

It doesnt really matter I dont think, just dont look like complete trash (ie.Football/Nascar clothing ). I wore jeans and a t-shirt and a light jacket pretty much the whole time I was there because it was raining, and when it wasnt, Jeans and a collared shirt, no problems!

Default the style of a tourist

I am an American living in France. I don't think of myself as a tourist but an adventurer. While drinking expresso with my French friends while sitting on a terrace in the Latin Quartier in Paris just to watch all the people passing by including tourists, my friends informed me who was who. It was pretty funny! American woman wear colorful nail polish on both their fingernails and toenails. It is also a dead give away if your wearing a nap sack or back pack. Oh and above all Americans and the English are loud! No matter what, once you say Bonjour they will hear your accent. Oh and if you need directions and have to stop someone on the street please say "excusez moi madame or monsieur bonjour....." It is important to try to speak French. They are just as proud of their country as we are of America. By the way I am assuming your American with your use of all caps and multiple question marks, very American! So with that said, just be yourself and read Stephen Clarke books to have a laugh at the French stereotypes as well.

Ok, i know it sounds really silly. but i went to Paris in Decemeber, wore my cons, jeans, coat, scarf and little hat...which sounds so sterotypically frence, but every person i spoke to tried having fun on french convostations with me, and spoke english to my boyfriend as soon as they met. I must of looked a little french then! x

Default Paris

I think you just stick out as a tourist regardless. I live in a place that has a lot of national tourists and they stick out just as much as the foreign tourists. The way you look at people and how you move are better giveaways than the clothes you wear.

I don't see why you would want to fit in with the locals if you're not one though. Nothing wrong with being a tourist, it helps you in some cases where people will probably gladly go out of their way to give you driections while if you look like a local they probably won't look at you twice.

Who cares whether you look like a tourist? You are one and everyone will know it as soon as you open your mouth anyway. If you aren't talking to people, then it doesn't matter what they think of you. Just dress comfortably and enjoy yourself.

(posting from Paris, wearing sweatpants and sneakers - that's track suit pants and trainers to you limeys).
