Default finding a place to stay in London

Hi. I'm moving to London on September 1st and I was just wondering how long do you think it would take to find a place. I've been to gumtree and it seems like they don't plan very far in advanced so I wouldn't be able to set up a place before I get there. If I go with a few different places to view would it be possible to move in within a few days of arriving? Any other advice would be helpful. Thanks!

Hey renting moves pretty quickly in London, especially if you are just looking for a room in an already occupied flat or house rather than a whole flat etc. Plently of people I know found rooms and were moved in within a week or two, so I would not worry that you will have to wait ages. Once you have found the room you want you can usually get in fast.

It depends whether you want your own flat or if you are happy to move into a shared house.

If you are happy to live in a shared flat/house, then you should be able to sort something out in a few days (up to a couple of weeks if you are choosy), especially if you contact a few places on Craigslist or Gumtree a few days before arriving in London.

If you're looking for your own flat (which is very expensive unless you are travelling over with some friends to share costs with) then it may take a little longer. But in this case you can still make appointments with estate agents before arriving.

I too am thinking of staying in London for a while. My research suggested that a place called the Boka Hotel in Earl's Court might be the best option. Anyone have experience with that? I also wonder if I could pay for my stay by renting my little toe to a hospital.
