Default I need your ADVICE!! Living in French Alps - what clothes??!!

Hi there,

My boyfriend and I have just secured ourselves a job in the French Alps! Yey! We will be working there from Aug 08 - May 09 - so over all of the seasons.

Neither of us have ever lived in snowy conditions before and we have no idea what to buy!

I'll be working inside mainly and skiing a few days a week. He'll be working outside and inside and snowboarding a few days a week.

We know we need to get thermals etc. But what would you recommend for some essentials to take?

Is it necessary to have 3 pairs of ski trousers for instance? Or will 1 do because you just pack on the layers underneath?

PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks in advance!!

I think you just have to go to a local store and find out for yourself. I believe you need those thick thermal jackets. Just make sure that you are all warmed up. You don't want to go freezing, do you?

Wait until you're there to buy clothes. If you come from a warm climate you won't be able to buy decent winter clothes at home anyway. Since you'll arrive in August you'll have lots of time to gradually buy warmer clothes.

Layers really are the key. Good fabrics are important too. You want clothes that will stay warm even when they're wet (wool) or dry quickly.

I live in the Rhône Alpes region very close to Geneva and it only snowed once last winter but if you plan on living in the mountains then that is a different story. Right now it is 82 degrees farenheit so bring summer clothes!
