This is the WORST hostel I've ever stayed at, and I've been to many. We checked in at 8pm, only to find out our room, which had 4 beds, was a complete and total mess from the 2 long stayers already in the room who had garbage and their stuff all over the place. Our two beds were not made up for us and had their clothes all over them. We went down to ask them to sort it and they could obviously care less, and told us housekeeping would get to it when they could. It took another hour plus two more trips down to reception.

The place is dirty, loud and cramped, with horrible nasty showers.

Wow! I wonder if you'd feel refreshed in the morning with that kind of hostel.

sorry to hear that i used to work at that hostel and unfortunately i was the supervisor for the house keeping department on year 2002 anyway there was no complaint like that but i feel sorry how they look after that nice hostel it was nice and new and spotless anyway i am looking forward to go back oneday and work for them,and i hope you come back oneday if i go back to work

Sorry you had a bad experience at ACB - it has become rather a large rack-'em-stack-'em-and-pack-'em operation since it moved into a much bigger building. There are a lot of other great hostels in and around the city. Queen St Backpackers isn't bad for a downtown place. Or City Groove which is a little old cottage tucked away in the middle of a city park. In Parnell there's City Garden Lodge, in Ponsonby the Brown Kiwi and in Mt Eden there's Bamber House.
