My girlfriend and I are going to New Zealand in late December and plan to travel around by camper van for the duration of our stay(17 days).

However, I've just found out how much it costs to take a van on the ferry between the north and south islands!!!

We're flying into and out of Auckland.

Can anyone advise how they've done this or what our other options are?

contact your hire company, and enquire if you can leave a van in Welling ton, and pick up another in Picton.
