Seriously, if you are strapped for cash find out about hostels who exchange cleaning for board. There is normally a min time but well worth it. You can make great friends and save money every day!!

I totally agree, i do it whenever i can. It makes you feel part of the setup and is very advantageous to both yourself and the hostel. It is such a great way to meet people, and you can make friends with the owners and have a contact for future visits, never a bad thing!

Working for accomod. is acceptable way. Plan on a week min. though. Works well for many travellers.Helpful if you can bring ( customer service, computer) exp. to the job as it gets you away from cleaning side.
