Question

Hey, do you know if there is work picking fruit all year round in New Zealand?? Does it depend on the seasons? Where do you go to get the best picking jobs???

The Hawkes Bay region has some of the best fruit picking in New Zealand.

There is also berry and kiwifruit picking in the Bay of Plenty area around Tauranga and Te Puke and grape picking in the Marlborough region near Blenheim and Picton.

Hawkes Bay should be your first stop. Some of the hostels in Hastings are really geared toward fruit pickers and they can arrange work for you.

The fruit picking season in Hawkes Bay runs from the second week of November to the first week of May. It is best to arrive in Hastings about a week before the season starts.

Hawkes Bay is the main fruit picking region.

Go to Hastings and ask around the hostels for work, particularly the Travellers Hostel, as they are usually in the know about fruit picking work.
