Question

I visited Aus once, it's a pretty cool place. Now I'd like to go to NZ...

Cool

Both places are good. There's probably more to see in Australia, although it's so big that you'll need loads of time to see everything.

However New Zealand is nice and compact and it's a lot easier to get to all the good spots.

I prefer NZ. Of course it depends what you want - Oz is better for surfing and diving, NZ is still OK but better for most other things.

I liked both NZ and Oz. If you have not much time, it's probably better to go to the Green Sheepy New Zealand. In about 5 weeks you can see and do a lot and travel through both north and south. You wouldn't see all of it of course, but you wouldn't feel as if you are in a rush either. For Australia you need a lot more time and there are more extremes in nature (rainforest, coral reef, desert, rocks, mountains). But in New Zealand you have a lot of different things near each other.
