In Darwin I stayed in Melaluca Lodge, opposite the Greyhound terminal in the main street. They have a nice pool and free pancake breakfast (yummy!) and a travel desk where you get tour discounts. It's a nice hostel with different buildings and places where you can relax and watch tv. It's worth the money. And if you can't afford it, you can try to get work there.

Melaleuca Lodge is also my fav hostel in Darwin. Although the Chilli's hostel across the road is also pretty good.

Thumbs up

The Don on Cavenagh street was bought by Nomads and given a huge facelift - now called "The Cavenagh" , and is the best standard of hostel in Darwin. The best feature is the doubles rooms, which have an ensuite ! and are priced the same as a double in the other Darwin hostels, which generally don't have ensuites. Bargain !

The Darwin YHA opposite Melaluca has a good reputation too, good kitchen facilities, good beds and a huge pool to cool of on Darwin hottest days.
