The route that's best for you depends on what sort of things you enjoy doing. For instance do you prefer big vibrant cities to the outdoors?

To work out the best route it is best to look at what sort of things do you want from your trip:

- do you want to see big cities, small towns, the outdoors, or a mixture of these?

- do you plan on working? what sort of work (office work, fruit picking, something different?)

- do you speak a foreign language that you want to practice or do you want to learn something new?

- do you like hot tropical weather or do you prefer something a little cooler?

- do you like to relax by the beach or do you get bored if there's nothing to do?

- do you want to see wildlife and go hiking in the outdoors?

- do you want to do activities like scuba diving, white water rafting or bungy jumping?

- are there special events or festivals that you would like to visit?

Once you have answered these questions then you can work out your priorities and mark these on a world map. Then work out a route that encompasses most of what you would like to see.

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to plan my first backpacking trip around the world and could do with some help on what routes to take. So far one option is dublin -thailand - bali - sydney - melbourne -auckland - la -dublin. Any suggestions would be of great help. Cheers

Hi,
We booked Hong Kong, Sydney, Fiji, LA, and New York with Trailfinders in Dublin ( we had bali booked but we cancelled it - I'm sure it is ok now however ). We are currently in Sydney since November 19th and if you are looking for great accommodation, the Bernly Private Hotel is excellent. We ended up here accidently as our other accommodation was overbooked but it was the best thing that could have happened ! Theres a review posted on Bug !
Hope this was some help in your search for a good route !
