Trying to remember... We didn't really find a good hostel in Sydney, was told wakeup backpackers was gd and quite near Oz experience office!
Newcastle YHA was quite nice, really friendly and they provided free meals and free surf board hire with pool comp and pub quiz etc in evenings - although it was a very quiet town so you may not want to stay long!
Byron Bay YHA was gd, close to town, beach and swimming pool!
Kookaburras in Hervey Bay was nice, again quite a quiet hostel but the staff were really friendly and gave loadsa gd advice - a trip to Fraser Island is a must!
Miss out townsville - nothing there!
There was a gd one in airlie beach, will let you know the name of it!
