Question Cairns long term accommodation??

Hey everybody, was wondering if anyone has stayed in the cairns sharehouse?? Have heard its nice and having my own room would be a BIG plus - as i've never shared a room/stayed in a hostel before. Im gonna stay in and around Cairns I think - if its possible to get work there - for 2 months and think it would prob work out cheaper and be less crazy to rent a room or something for that time..anyone know of the 'share house' or any other long term accom places?? Would be v.grateful for any help t'all!!
Thanks everyone,
J
P.S. does anyone know how easy it is to get jobs in Cairns round July?? Am a little worried as I will only be bringing enough money to get by for a couple weeks without working and I've heard that everyone heads North for the winter months! Thanks again!

Default Cairns long term accom

Hi. what worked for myself when i was in Cairns 4 yrs ago. I was in a hostel with my brother. We rented a single room in the hostel. Was nice but cost $20 a day. Saw an ad for apartment for rent. Managed to talk owner into letting us have it on a will vacate 24hr basis for $100 a week. We stayed 2 months in Cairns as tourists so no idea of work avail. Sorry.

Default Acco

Forgot. Hostel furnished. Apartment not. So keep in mind. But single room in hostel on weekly basis worth consider ( usualy discounted if longer stay) if you need furnished and do not mind the activity around you.

Talking JObs in Cairns

Hello,
i think that you should be fine finding work in Cairns in July, it's a quieter time of year but that means people move on, freeing up jobs. I arrived with a friend about 2 weeks ago and she managed to get a job the next day. Let your hostel staff know you are looking then they'll let you know as soon as anything comes in. Also i noticed that alot of the reef trip boats were looking for people to work on the boats preparing food, which really is a light lunch. The rest of the time they sat back and enjoyed the ride!!!
Good luck!
Laura

Hi guys,
Thanks for all your help, am a bit unsure of what to expect and will need to be working up there if I wanna stay in the sun for the winter! Laura - did you manage to rent an apartment up there easily enough? I have been looking for info on Cairns; jobs, accommodation(except the 'Sharehouse' which looks pretty cool but not sure what its like to actually live in), etc but cannot seem to find much on the net, especially considering the amount of info avail on Sydney! Been told loadsa different things bout the weather there that time of year so if anyone has been up there from July - September, is it hot/cold/rainy?? I am not sure what clothes I should be bringing with me, dont wanna be overloaded with stuff!! Well thanks a mill for the advice guys,
J : )
