Hi,

I am planning to live in australia for 6-12 months around late 2005. I dont know anything about what visa's I require (not long back from travelling in europe and since im from the uk, passport only).

Im mainly looking for bar work or in a restuarant or something. Enough to pay my accommodation, food and let me live a little too.

Ideally I want to be able to just go from place to place asking if if their are jobs but there may be a better solution. Also, where can I find out more about this type of visa? Is the working holiday visa (i think thats the name) what I would be looking for?

Cheers

ps. please feel free to add any off-topic stuff that may be of use to me on this adventure

Never worked in Australia but since i spent 7 months in hostels i picked up some pointers. You would be best served if you have an outgoing personality and get along with others. Jobs do pop up in hostels but mostly for rent coverage. Well worth u checking with operators of hostels.Competion for jobs outside fierce so best to not rely too much on income. Just take anything offered the best way. Fruit picking will rank there as well.

check out www.immi.gov.au - the aussie immigrant information site for all the info you need for a working visa - i havent needed one but friends have found all the info on that website - also, as far as I know you can only work 3 months at a time in one place - also check out www.jarmbie.com.au/itinerary/factspage. There is also a certificate you need to complete before working in a bar/restaurant (anywhere u are serving alcohol) called the RSA - half a day course (about $120 aus) which you have to complete before a bar or restaurant will take you on - more info at http://www.dgr.nsw.gov.au/HTML/LIQUO...uirements.html
Hope this helps!

I was looking into the idea of getting a flat in OZ and working there for a year. Is there any other type of visa besides the WHV so that I don't have to keep looking for a new job every couple months? I would like to just have one job and be able to travel on weekends throughout different parts of the country.

thanks
B
