Hello!

Hope someone can help me out with this, any info would be appreciated.

Im going over to Oz in January and am planning on staying between 6-12 months so am looking to set up an Australian Bank account, but as im going to be travelling about and will not have an australain address im not sure how to go about this? Is there any way I can get an account without a postal address?
Obvioulsy i'll be taking enough cash to fund my travels for a couple of months so dont really want to take all travellers cheques.
Does anyone have any ideas??

Thanks in advance!

You can get a mailing address through a company like Mail Boxes Etc. or do what most backpackers do and use the address of the hostel that you are staying at.

No need to do anything .Just find out from your bank if signs on back of your regular banking card. . Cirrus for example are active in Australia. Myself never did anything. Just used my canadian bank card like normal in theBanks ATMs.

Just have about $200 aus when you land. Use common sense when arriving. Check out if buses available from airport or train stations wherever you arrive since taxis are really expensive.Ex. in Hawaiie taxi was $25 to downtown Bus $2.00

Prebook hostel online whenever possible to make sure you have bed upon arrival. Many hostels have free pickups also. This is most helpful tip since i was out of luck getting a bed in melbourne and had quite the search.Really a bummer when you land after a days travel.Use suitcase on wheels rather than back pack if you can since easier to handle.Back packs not realy required to say you are backpacker these days. You will most likely be in built up areas for most part. Back packs for over country or bush travel. Not needed if hostel to hostel.
