Hi, this thread is very old but ill answer anyway incase its helpful to anyone else. When my sisters immigrated to Australia they went on two year working visas and then applied once over their. Austalias immigration policy is quite flakey at the moment so go to their website for more details. It is allot easier if you are a skilled worker (e.g. accountant, plumber or electrician) they are looking for at the time! The working visa laws have recently changed and now you can only get a year visa and if you work for at least 3 months doing agricutural work (e.g. harvesting crops) you can extend your visa to between 18 months and 2 years.
To apply for a working visa or for any more indepth info on visa i would recommend to go to
http://www.visabureau.com/australia/...s_cid=20008423. for more details. Also note so they dont give you emergency tax in Australia you will require a tax file number you can apply for this at

Hope this helps
Jim
