Why is it that everyone goes to Europe for the summer? I don't get it, whats the attraction. I'm backpacking Australia in the begining of May. I'm starting to wonder if I may be the only one. There are plenty of people travelling in Oz right now; although it is really the time of year that more people are thinking of Europe, towards the end of the year more people think about going down under.

There plenty to do in Europe, but also plenty of things to do in Australia/New Zealand. Both places are fun, but for different reasons.

You're definitely not the only one going to Australia. It's just that more people going to Europe seem to have discovered this site, than people going to Australia.

BTW, Australia is the perfect backpacking destination. It is cheaper and the hostels are of a much higher standard than most other places. The transport infrastructure is pretty good too. The only problem is that the whole backpacking industry in Australia is a little too developed - it sometimes makes travel feel too organised even when you're trying to do your own thing.

I won't be there when you arrive, but there is no problem finding other people to travel with. Just find in a good hostel when you arrive, stay there about a week and you will meet other people that are going the same places you want to go.

Let me know where you are arriving and I will recommend a few hostels.
