hey people,

im 23 years old and from the good old garden of england(kent).

im travelling to melbourne at the end of january 2005.

travelling on me own but keen to meet up with anyone who has the same sorta plans.

been reading up on places to go etc but any advice on places to go in victoria, and what hostels to stay at in melbourne would be good.

not to sure how long will stay in melbourne/victoria depends whats going on really and how much there is to see and do, after that could head north, south to tasmania or over to adelaide not to fussed.

easy going fun lovin person just up for a wicked laugh and fantastic experience in the promised land

im on msn so either post on here or feel free to add me to ur msn lists, or email us.

cheers

iain

Gday,
Would suggest strongly staying at the hostel called the Green room. Large multi storied building and run proffesionaly. Good security, Just a kitty corner from Flinders train station. 2 train stations in Melbourne. Flinders is centraly located. 20 min walk from the other one. Flinders station for trains local other if going out of state.Victoria market up the road from green room hostel and very good bargains available as well as cheapest food since u do own cooking if syaying in hostels Be sure to visit Capt. Cooke,s cottage while in Melbourne.Brought over from England. Also a large Casino but u lose 99% of the time.

You do not mention how long the visit. If 1 month or more get the Great Southern Railway pass. It allows you to travel all over as well as ride The Ghan train to Alice and Darwin. check it out. Only for out of country backpackers so get a back packer membership as well.Sydney to Cairns not on the rail route. too bad.I went all the major cities on the pass. Just book ahead by phone with a follow up couple of days later to confirm since i got burned while at Alice as ticket not registered for my trip.Australia is huge even from a canuck viewpoint.Get local maps on arrival to each city.
