Default Camping in Australia

Hi,

Could anyone give me some advice on camping in Australia. I would like to travel by car with a tent during the months October-March.

How much do avergage camping places cost? Do you have to pay extra for electricity? How safe is camping outdoors? Or any other tips about camping you might want to share!

Please help me out and give any advice you have!

Thanks!

Expect to pay around A$10 to camp. Less if you're camping in a National Park and more if you want a camping site with electricity.

Default She'll be 'right, mate!

Hey Margot,

I am an Aussie and have been camping a fair bit. I agree with what Tim said. Man, that guy must get around! He knows everything about everywhere!! I guess that is why he is the editor... anywho. Camping outdoors is generally pretty safe. Just be sensible. Don't pitch your tent under a tree incase a branch falls and if there is a long-drop toilet at the campsite make sure you are not downwind from it (to be safe just don't pick any of the sites right next to the longdrop). I prefer camping in national parks because camping should be about getting close to nature and national parks generally have the most undisturbed natural environment. The more remote the better in my opinion (as long as you aren't camping alone or else you could get very lonely). If you are camping solo you probably should be careful but I haven't heard of anything happening to anyone at a campsite. Best bet is not to draw attention to yourself. Anyway I hope this helps you...
All the best and have a fantastical trip!
