Default Advice/tips/reccomendations please!!

Hi, myself and a friend are heading to oz next september, our planning is in the very early stages, but we want to start in perth and travel along the south to melborne, then up the east coast, then along the north, and hopefully take in as much as we can in a year.
I was hoping there would be people on here willing to give any thoughts on what to do... not obvious things but little gems they may have found off the beaten track.
Also, transport, would people reccomend buying a car or sticking to public transport etc?
And finally accomadation, are hostels the way to go all year, or is hiring a camper van or renting a flat better?
Dont be afraid to bombard me with info, i want mountains of it, about anything and everything oz related!!

Thanks peeps.

Most peopel I hear that start in Perth go North... I would actually suggest this as hen you are going with the vast majority of people in the same direction... you bump into friends in towns along the way and it does actually help you and them! :-)

I would recommend getting a campevan yes, especially travelling anywhere but the east coast as you can stop anywhere to sleep and sights a far between. I foudn this page for you that should help: http://www.australianbackpackers.net...-rent-sale.php

Also as you are going to the Northern Territory I felt I shodul recommend to you a really great tour guide operation that runs all different types of tours not just canoeing... check out thier NT guide here:

Happy travels!

I dont want to copy it into another thread, but have a read of my advice in the What to do? thread in this site.

One the question of public transport or buying a car, Id say, if you have the money, definately buy a car. Most bus services dont go too far off the beaten track. If you have a car, you will see tons more places that the buses dont go to.
