Red face Fruit Picking in OZ

Hay, i'm heading out for the fruit picking thing to extend my visa, but am alittle bit nervous. anyone have advice or stories about the best ways to get started?? i'm a 24 yr old solo female traveller in Melbourne at the mo, from the UK

Many hostels in fruit picking areas will find work for you as they have contacts with farmers and run themselves a bit like an employment agency. However these hostels are among the worst hostels in the country so the standard of accommodation isn't so great. However there are a few good workers hostels like Berri Backpackers (SA) and Palace Backpackers in Childers (QLD).

Before heading up to pick fruit I would phone the hostels to see if there is work available. As long as there is work available (ie: as long as it's fruit picking season) then there should be no problem.

It is hard work but it can be a lot of fun.
