I was hoping to rent a car from Toronto and drop in Boston a week later. this seems to be impossible. Can anybody suggest anything else. We're going to Niagara for a couple of days on the way, can I rent to Niagara, walk across the border then rent on the other side? Thanks

I don't see a problem with that but you'll need to check with the rental companies.

Zipcar (www.zipcar.com) lets you take cars across the US-Canada border, but I think you have to return it to the same city you rent it from.

Even when there I couldn't find a way. I use Zipcars a lot in the US but they have to go back to the same parking space. We ended up flying across the border to Boston and renting from there.
