Question work permit AFTER e2 business visa

I'm going to move to the states in april with my parents on their e2 business visa. I don't want to start working straight away but I want to get a work permit for when any opportunities arise. I'm 18 and will have to get a visa for myself when I turn 21. I'm just a little lost as to how go about getting a work permit. I know you can get a hb1 or something like that, but thats for people outside of the country and you have to know where you want to work because they have to apply for you.

I've also heard i can invest in my parents business but im not sure if I want to or not.

Any advice would be extemely helpful,
Thanks.
