Be careful hitch hiking, obviously. There's an area in BC, in the mountains, where 2 or 3 girls disappear every summer. All of the disappearances are similar enough that they're considered to be due to one serial killer. It may have been that guy with the pig farm that they've found all those dismembered corpses on, in which case things should be fine this year, but it may be someone else. Only way to know really is to wait and see if any women go missing hitching in the BC mountains this summer.

Other than that, have an awesome time. I'm in Calgary so if you pass through here and need someone to show you around town give me a shout.

Don't hitchhike! Check out the Sierra Club instead. Lots of local brances do hikes every weekend and you mihgt have to pay a small membership fee but you will be with experienced, nice hikers who will not abduct you!

Um, ecorachel, hitch hiking has nothing to do with actually hiking. It means standing by a highway and getting rides with strangers.

I know what hitch hiking is. I was assuming from the original post that this person was hitch hiking out west so that she could go and do some actual hiking (in the mountains, with her tent and backpack).
