Default Ticket/Visa for Brazil

Hey all, i have a question that i hope someone out there can help me with.

I am planning a trip to Brazil at the start of December this year, my plan is to stay there for awhile and then do some further traveling in S. America. My question is regarding what type of airline ticket i should get. The best choice for me would be to get a single ticket to go there and then when i want to go back again i just buy another single, this is actually both cheaper and more convenient for me as i am not quite sure how long i will stay. But i am worried that i will have problems at immigration controls, that they will not let me through because they might think that i will stay longer than the allowed 3+3 months tourist visa i can get, in Brazil and also other countries. Does anyone have any experience of this and if so what is your suggestion? How do backpackers in general do with tickets when they are going to a place for a longer time?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion/help you can give me.
