Me an a mate plan on going on a trip soon. Most probably Amsterdam but to be honest if it turns out cheaper I'd could easily change my mind and go somewhere else. In fact I don't want to stay in the same place, I want to move around.

I've been speaking to my uncle who has travelled all over the world. He's given me a few tips for getting around on a shoe string. Such as don't make reservations at hotels or hostels, just turn up last minute and if they've got a spare bed that night they'll probably give it to you cheaply.

I'm looking for more tips though, on how to get around cheaply and how to make money whilst your at it. Amsterdam in particular is where I'll be looking for work, but to be honest, ANYWHERE will do. I just want to get away for a few months.

We're both from England and only speak English. Any ideas?

In fact, would it be safe to just fly over there, by a paper and look for jobs that way?
