Immigration to Canada or the USA http://www.bug.co.uk/forums/discussion/4521/immigration-to-canada-or-the-usa Thu, 09 Aug 2007 18:41:50 -0400 ljones 4521@/forums/discussions
I'm really just looking for some information here. I've been over various websites (goverment and otherwise) but the immigration information I've found often can be quite confusing to read!

What I'd like to know is how easy is it to immigrate permanently to either the USA or Canada, or get a work vesa for either one of those countries and then take up more permenent residence there later (I'm coming from the UK).

I understand Canada uses a points system with a miminum of 67 points but there were some points I wasn't sure of, most noticbly I think where it asks you to find out if your experience or work confirms to skill level "0" or "A" or "B" (I don't know if mine does!).

RIght now I am using places such as monster.com to look for work, but is there a faster and easier way? I know of BUNAC but it is closed for 2007 and the age limit is 35, and in 2008 I will be 35 (so does this make me not legible?).

Also how easy is it to get to work in the USA? I tried filing paperwork with a friend over there, but after 4 (!) years of waiting the paperwork was rejected. The idea would be that I'd work for him for a time, and then seek other work within the USA later on. They made unreasonable demands on him though like asking him to pay me a wage he could never afford and to incorporate.

I'm basically after the fastest/easiest route to get to working (and later permenent residence) in Canada or the USA.

I am aged 34 (35 in november!), I am single and have qualifications such as a-level & city and guilds qualifications.

Canadian citizen planning for TN Visa http://www.bug.co.uk/forums/discussion/4762/canadian-citizen-planning-for-tn-visa Sat, 22 Mar 2008 22:35:58 -0400 chrs0302 4762@/forums/discussions I am a Canadian citizen living in Toronto, Canada from 7 years. I am an UNIX system administrator by profession and got 4 years of real time experience in Toronto, Canada with different employers. I am a mechanical engineering graduate from India and obtained couple of UNIX related certifications from local colleges in Toronto, Canada. Also I have couple of Solaris (UNIX) certifications from Sun Microsystems, USA. Now I am trying to get into a job in US. I am receiving calls from recruiters and hope to find a job soon in USA. Now the real issue is with TN Visa. The recruiters are ready to send the required letters/documents for my TN Visa. But on of my friend says that I may or may not get the TN visa as my bachelor’s degree (16 years) and professional designation are not related. In the sense I may get a letter as “UNIX System Administrator” or “Linux System Administrator” or “System Analyst” or “Unix Specialist” and where as my graduation is from mechanical engineering.

Please let me know usually what are the chances of getting TN visa for this kind of situations. I appreciate your suggestions so that I can well equip my self with the necessary documents and preparation. Give me as many clues as possible. I want to visit the office near Niagara Falls, ON, CANADA when I am ready.]]>
URGENT! Volunteers needed http://www.bug.co.uk/forums/discussion/4321/urgent-volunteers-needed Wed, 21 Feb 2007 13:53:09 -0500 solskinsglad 4321@/forums/discussions I'm working (as a volunteer) in El Estor, Guatemala. And in March/April we will be running out of volunteers...

Option A:
Our computer volunteer has after two years in El Estor decided to go back to Argentina, which leaves us without anyone to maintain the computers and teach the students computer skills (such as Word, Excel and internet). The position is open from March 10 until October, but a shorter period of time might very well be possible. The school year is divided in terms of 8-9 weeks with exams in March, June, August, and October.

Do you feel like going to Guatemala to help native Mayan teenagers by playing computer games in your own internet café? Then you might be the person we are searching for - please send me an email (solskinsglad@gmail.com).

Option B:
Our teacher of sports is leaving us after Easter. Sports can be anything that you feel like teaching; football, basket, volley, gymnastics, dancing, yoga... you name it. The position is open from April 9 until October, but a shorter period might very well be possible. The school year is divided in terms of 8-9 weeks with exams in March, June, August, and October.

If you like any kind of sport and are willing to share it with Guatemalan teenagers, please send me an email (solskinsglad@gmail.com).

For both positions goes that you will receive free room and board while working. Some knowledge of Spanish is needed as you'll have to teach in Spanish (sports are obviously easier to teach with just basic Spanish and gestures). If you are two persons travelling together, sharing one position will be no problem; you'll still get free food for both of you. You'll have the weekends (three days) off.

We are three volunteers working in the school, one in the office, one in the library and one as an English teacher.

I'm from the UK and im staying in the US under the visa waiver-I-94 right now this is my second time coming to the US , i had trouble getting in though because when i went back to the UK i was only there for 12 days and came back to the US , the boarder patrol officer told me i couldnt keep doing this and next time i go back to the UK i should apply for a Visa but i dont see anywhere that says i cant go back to my own country for so many days and not come back to the US. So what i'm wondering is can they deny me entry ?? or are they just trying to scare me cause i have read on other forums that they do this to alot of ppl and i also heard that if i apply for a new passport that they dont know that i have ever visited the US ? i somehow find this hard to understand , when i entered the US they took my fingerprints so if i did get a new passport and tried entering the US they would take my fingerprints again and they would have all my records .. am i right or wrong ?]]>

I don't want to start working straight away but I want to get a work permit for when any opportunities arise. I'm 18 and will have to get a visa for myself when I turn 21. I'm just a little lost as to how go about getting a work permit. I know you can get a hb1 or something like that, but thats for people outside of the country and you have to know where you want to work because they have to apply for you.

I've also heard i can invest in my parents business but im not sure if I want to or not.

Any advice would be extemely helpful,
Thanks.

Anyway, I have a german fiance and when I get out of the Army ( in the next year) we wanted to go to college in either germany or the states. Now she has her American visa ,but the problem is if we go to college in germany, we are under the impression that she will lose her american visa. If not how can we prevent this? If thats true though, can she get it back? or is their a renewal process? And Im not 100% sure , but as long as I get into a college or have a job in germany I can get a german visa correct? ok thats the first option. Now if we go to the states for college, will she loose her german citizenship? if so can she get it back? All this, please remember that we will be in the country for 4-8 years for school. thank you!

Oh also Im not sure if it makes any differents but she got her visa through her stepdad that is in the U.S. army, but when he leaves I believe her visa will expire if she doesnt live in the states for 6 months is this correct?]]>

I am off to the US for 4 weeks starting 26 Jan. My girlfriend would like to visit me for Valetines Day :) So we would like to apply for a tourist visa for her.

Some important information is:
- she is currently in UK on a student visa valid till Jan 2009.
- she has around 1000 pounds in her UK bank account.
- she will receive around 1000 pounds per month till July as scholarship, we can get a letter from university confirming this.

Currently, we do not have any confirmed address in US where she can stay. She cannot stay with me as I am in company accommodation.

My questions are:
- How good are chances of her getting a visa for short duration of about 10 days?
- Is it sufficient to say that she is going to the US to visit friends and will be living with them? If so, do the friends need to provide any documentation?
- Are her ties to the UK strong enough to be granted a visa - she has to return to complete her MSc course and also is getting a scholarship here.

I have been told that visa authorities generally consider it suspicious if someone is going for tourism for such a short time as 10 days. Is this true??

Any comments and help would be HUGELY appreciated!!

Cheers,
Greg.]]>
