Not quite a Hostel, but close enough ! http://www.bug.co.uk/forums/discussion/4904/not-quite-a-hostel-but-close-enough- Mon, 04 Aug 2008 11:43:33 -0400 vikkitraveller 4904@/forums/discussions
Anyway the point of this message is to let you know that if you are a lone female or females travelling to this part of the world I stumbled upon this nice cheap budget accommodation in the heart of Patong. It's not a Hostel as it doesn't have dorms, however its cheap enough to be considered a Hostel to me.

It is a short walk away from Patong Beach and Bangla Road. For any girl who isn't familiar with Patong it is very much a "mans town" with endless girly bars down one street called Bangla Road but don't be put off... there is lots to see and some great new shopping places to visit like Jungceylon.

So if you plan to visit the island of Phuket the Same Same guest house, which I think is European owned and run by friendly Thai staff, is cheap as chips but clean and has sizable double rooms with en suite shower, air-con, cable TV, even a safe and lost of other goodies like hair dryers and irons !!

When you first get there it seems a little weird because the guesthouse has a beauty salon below at street level, but don't be put off... not far to go for a manicure and pedicure.

This place has a "couple and female only" policy, so no single beer swilling men and no bar girls coming and going like in most other places (gay couples are also welcome). I felt very safe and would recommend this guest house to any travelling females, especially anyone travelling for the first time to Phuket.

I do not have an email address but their website ( which is very basic) is www.samesamephuket.com and their phone is +66 8153 83331

Other quick tips are only pay 100 baht for any tuk tuk in and around Patong, don't be fooled by the scratch cards as you always win and are then expected to cough up lots of money for a time share, breakfast at Dangs Cafe, and FAB club sandwiches at Mings OH and never TIP more than 10-20 baht for anything !

If I can be of any help on other matters please send me a message….

We had to hassle them to give us a room we had already booked but got stung with mysterious surcharge and then when we got to the room and spotted the pubic hair around the hand basin realized that this fitted in perfectly with the grimy atmosphere/ambiance that reminded me of some flea pit in Malaysia I stayed in during 1989. Places to visit & stay in Kerala http://www.bug.co.uk/forums/discussion/6756/places-to-visit-stay-in-kerala Wed, 27 Apr 2011 09:59:22 -0400 HippySunshine 6756@/forums/discussions We are starting our journey in Kerala, flying into Trivandrum.

Does anyone have any recommendations of (budget) places to visit, hostels, food etc in Trivandrum to start us off on our journey.

I would like to visit Kovalam Beach at some point but unsure of where is best to start off and how long I will need to spend in these places as I'm not entirley sure of how much there is to see there. Is a couple of nights in each town do-able?

After Trivandrum I think we will probably head to Cochi so any advice there also would be much appreciated.

Thank you x]]>

Warm, friendly atmosphere and the owners are great people.

The dorm (as well as the huts) are all situated up on poles.

You can arrive by river from the bottom, or down the path from the top.

Motorbikes are available for hire. The large communal area is a nice place to hang out. There is a lending library there as well as hammocks that you can lounge in. Tables and chairs as well as the chairs that you can lie down in are also in this area, which also serves as the dining room.

Meals here are well prepared and very reasonably priced.

The river is safe for swimming in, in fact, you can swim across the river then walk to town!]]>

Also, how will the weather be in March?

Singapore Betel Box Hostel , average http://www.bug.co.uk/forums/discussion/4348/singapore-betel-box-hostel-average Sat, 24 Mar 2007 05:50:06 -0400 mahjong77 4348@/forums/discussions Singapore Betel Box Hostel , beware of all that glitters is not gold.

Recently stayed there in a private room $50SD a night , we paid for dirty carpets , gecko poo and dust. Honestly it was quite filthy.

communal Kitchen was dirty with a dish rag that had green mold growing in it and a washing up brush that looked like a toilet brush. No hot water in the kitchen to wash your dishes in , I witnessed a number of guests just rinsing their dishes without washing them.

No hot shower in our shared bathroom that was used by many others and dirty with hairs on the floor. Cold showers were not my idea of $50 a night.

Breakfast was free and good.

Internet free at 20 minute sessions per day , so not unlimited as they claim.

Communal room was kitchen, dining , internet , tv office and pool table all in the one room , no longer tidy and new as in their online photo's.

Lack of communication between Tony and his staff let to an embarrassing incident and us leaving early , we booked a decent Hotel WITH private bathroom and hot water for $9SD a night more.

Joo Chiat road also contains a few brothels and noisy nightclubs , you are safe though.

Beware , it's ok but there are many that are better.]]>
