Hello everyone,

a friend and I are thinking about going to Australia in summer 2010.
We would like to stay there for about 10 month. The problem is that we heard from some people that there are no jobs for backpackers at the moment.

Does anyone know something about that?!
Is that still true or is the situation improving?

I'm looking forward for your answers...

Sufficient Funds In Perth

Heyy. I'm Aaron, twenty years old and I'm from the Uk. Kinda new to this website so bare with me :P

I'm planning on flying out to Perth, W.A with my girlfriend and her family. I'll be living with them while working on a holiday working visa, so will I have to show I have sufficient funds? I mean, I probably wont need as much. I gathered I'll have around £1500 / £2000 by the time I fly out in April / May 2012. Will this be enough? I'll obviously be working while I'm in Australia, so I will be able to support myself while having free accomodation with my girlfriend and her family. He's found work as a paramedic in the Belmont area, so he will be earning enough to support me.

Does anyone have any advice / opinions on this matter?

Fruit picking in western australia mid sept onwards

Hi,

I’ve done loads of research but I’m still in dire need of help! I will be in oz mid September I want to start fruit picking straight away for my 2nd WHV. Ideally I want to work in Southern Western Australia (as the north would be too hot and humid at that time- but if that’s were the work is please say) or in southern eastern Australia (as I intend to be in Sydney for New Year – not too sure about xmas yet but I digress!). Can anyone recommend any towns where they worked and enjoyed staying? Also I can’t find anything from people who have worked those months – will it be difficult to find a job given the current climate? Because I want to do as much before xmas as possible I would like to have a job (or area at least) set up for when I get there.

Will the immigration department definatley ask to see if I have 5000 Dollars in the bank when I get to OZ with my working visa in October????? Or do they do "random checks"??? I will have about 2000 and my flight tickets???

i am on my final 3 months living and working in australia on a WHM visa, i am in the process of researching possible ways of staying here. in a desperate measure i have even moved up to alice springs to seek work sponsorship (i am unskilled)

can someone please help me, with perhaps other ways that i have missed or a loop hole that you are perhaps aware of.

Hello!

Hope someone can help me out with this, any info would be appreciated.

Im going over to Oz in January and am planning on staying between 6-12 months so am looking to set up an Australian Bank account, but as im going to be travelling about and will not have an australain address im not sure how to go about this? Is there any way I can get an account without a postal address?
Obvioulsy i'll be taking enough cash to fund my travels for a couple of months so dont really want to take all travellers cheques.
Does anyone have any ideas??

Own Transport..

I'm heading over to australia at the end of this year, roughly 4 months., and have just started browsing general jobs to get a feel for it really.. I've noticed that on many they state own transport is required yet i cannot drive.. Is this a crucial requirement with all Harvest/Farm/Construction and general Working Holiday jobs that i will come across as i cannot drive..
Can anybody help on this?

12 months in oz, over 30

Hi all,

Myself and partner are 35 and what to travel around oz for 12 months but I am slightly baffled by the visa system. I know we are not eligible for a working visa but I read on one site that there is a different one for the over 30. I cant find any info about it except migration visas.

We really dont want to work the whole time but would be fun to try new things.

If anyone has any info I would be very grateful for help.

Now I live in Sydney, but since I do not speak English, I could not even find work.I heard about an organization for the fruit picking, but do not know the name and maybe you can help me.i know this: you can contact the organization via Internet, they come to take you into the airport (with shuttle). they bring you near the area of the harvest, they help you for accommodation and you can begin to work.

Working Holiday Visa Rules

Wonder if anyone could help clarify the working holiday visa rule which is 'can only work for one employer for 3 months'. Seems straightforward doenst it?! Not really, especially when no-one I ask seems to really know.

Does 'employer' simply mean who I am paid by directly - or where I work i.e where the 'original' payment comes from?

To elaborate, I am employed by a testing company as a contractor, who used a recruitment company to find me (I am paid by the recruitment company) The testing company then sent me to work for a third party - a bank.

So - when my three months are up, which 'employer' can I no longer work for during my stay in Oz? The recruitment firm, the testing company, or the bank?

Do you need a working visa for all work?

I am going to be in australia from about May-June. I may just need a few days working to tide me over. The thing with the working visa though, is that it is for 12 months and really expensive. Can you get anything where you work for a few days and it is ok? How stict are people who just need a bit of a hand for a while?

Hi there,

This has probably been asked many times before but i haven't been able to find the answer on this site but here goes....

I'm looking into going to OZ in late 2011 to travel for probably a month and then work, possibly in mildura, for maybe 6 months. How long a visa can i get, what type of visa etc

I'm 29 years old and will be 31 in october of next year if that helps, i'm also a UK citizen.

Two of my friends and I are going traveling in June 07, after a few months in Asia we are going to settle down in Oz for about 6 months and hopefully work while we are there. Our plan is to save up around £7000 but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the usual budget for 6 months in Oz would be if we were working (something like fruit picking most likely)

Hi everyone, loving it here in Australia. Stuck in Brisbane at the moment looking for work and finding it harder than i thought. Most of the jobs advertised in local papers are for permenant residents only! Any one got any idea where i can find work? Starting to run out of money, about 2 months funds left, eeek!

Hi me and my mate are coming out to oz at the end of june and we are thinking about the best way to bring cash out with us. We are going to set up a bank account when we get there so should we transfer our main funds into this from England and just bring enough to tide us over untill then?
Also is travellers cheques the way to go and just enough cash to get us there. Anyone with info will be a grate help. We are landing in adelaide so if anyone wants to meet up with to fresh brit lads and wants to show us the ropes get in touch. Cheers

I am planning on coming over to Australia in June 09 initially to get a feel for the place but looking to possibly make the move perminant. Just wondered whether I am correct in thinking that with a working holiday visa I could initially stay for up to 24 months? I am planning on picking up some short of work while I there and as i understand it i can only work with a single employer for 3 months blocks, is this correct. Thanks in advance.

Austrlian Visa Processing Time

DEAR FRNDS,

I have submitted my application fro australian visa by january 19 2007, and stil it seems that my visa has been under processing,

i recieved my medical and pcc reuest by september and i was able to send them bac by october, but unfortunatly the lcu have requested for a second medical test fro my chest xray and my second medical test has been send bac by 19 december. but now its realy confusing how long it will take to get the grand letter, cos now its been more than a year

really worried!!! and anyone ther to help me by giving a good advice fro what to do now??
