Hand to Mouth in Europe

Looking for someone to travel with around Europe over the summer of this year (2011) working on a tiny budget. I am intending to couch surf and camp, hitchhiking and walking as the main transport methods, considering trains but would try to avoid paying as much as possible.

I am will be 18 by the time of departure and am in the East Midlands. Going to get down to Calais somehow, maybe get a lift with a family member or else hitchhike down there. Packing very light and hoping the universe will provide.

Have to be back in jolly old England by mid-September and would be leaving late June, anyone fancy coming along? I don't fancy travelling with anyone much older than myself and i dont really care about gender.

This won't be a package type holiday or any of that shit, living very much hand to mouth on a day to day basis.

As far as languages go I have a functional grasp of French and know a very small amount of German! Spainish speaker would be appreciated!

So if you're a like minded person and fancy a bit of fun before uni or whatever write back =)

[EDIT] This will be a trip will very little money, i will be taking no more than £200 after ferry costs, and am considering going without money!

Hi All,

This is a whole new concept to me and i am somewhat excited and nervous to be doing it. I would love to travel as much of the world as possible. I am looking at going at the end of summer 2011... I am looking at going travelling with someone. Whether your female / male, one or a group of you.

My ideal would be something along the lines of: Hong Kong, Thailand, Oz, Nz, Fiji, Cook Islands and then perhaps travel around the USA in camper!!! Just ideas that are floating around in my head at the moment. Let me know if you are interested...

Hey,

I am day dreaming of travel again and came up with this. I want to see Africa but with very little funds i need to get there first. So, as i've been thinking of hitchhiking around Europe for a year or two now, it seems like the perfect way to get there!

I'm thinking sometime in the first half of next year, before i get settled anywhere workwise. I've just finished uni (architecture) but am not working in the profession as there are no jobs at the moment. I would like a companion to make the trip safer and to share the epic adventure with.

Nothing at all is cemented in my mind, but i just wanted to put this out there and see how appealing the trip is to others, if anyone at all!

Solo-Backpacking Companion in 2010

Hello,

I have planned one backpacking trip throughout Europe previously unfortunately, the trip fell through and am now planning a solo trip scheduled for March or April 2010 until August 2010 or so. Since the trip is still some ways away I have not made up a definite list of destinations. However, I would like to backpack through all of the Eastern and Western areas of Europe and possibly making my way through the top of Africa.

I plan on working as much as possible for room and board. Also, I am open to meeting up with fellow backpackers and sharing my travels with them if anyone is interested.

Since this may be a little of an undertaking for a first time backpackers any advice on routes, destinations, and where i can most commonly find places of employment in exchange for room and board would be greatly appreciated.

NZ female, 25, who has been living in Ireland since October 2010. Have done a tour around the main cities of Ireland however have been working in a 9-5pm job in Dublin so dont think I've got to experience the "real" Ireland. Anyways looking for some people who might be keen to do some random backpacking/travel for the few weeks around Ireland and maybe over to Scotland in in August 2011. Open to suggestions. I've done some travel on my own to Barcelona etc and would prefer to have some people to do this with for company, ideas etc. Let me know if your keen on some idea. Otherwise I'll probably end up staying in the job I'm in now until it's time to go home.

New to this site but thought I would give it a bash...

I have a month off work (YAS!) and will be travelling Europe by Train.

My rough plan is -

Start 01 September 2011 -
Belgium for 3 days
Switzerlan for 4 days
Austria for 4 days
Czech Republic for 4 days
Poland for 4 days
Slovakia for 2 days
Croatia for 4 days
Venice for 2 days
and Munich for 3 days to enjoy Oktoberfest.
Fly home on 01 October 2011

I have a rough idea of the cities I want to Travel to with in those countrys. I also have to start in Belgium and end in Munich (flights and hostels are booked!).

Just wondering if there is anyone here planning a similar trip or has been on a trip like this and can give me any tips or places to see for a solo traveller.

Would also like to know if anyone else will be going to Oktoberfest from 28/09 to 01/10 this year?

After a long time,i want to leave without anything but my packed stuff and my will to be free.
I'm planning to leave for somewhere in europe as a start,and then going on depending on what happened.

So I am in the works of planning what I hope to be a relatively low budget, flexible and fantastic trip to predominantly Southern Europe. I will be going during the months of June and July, probably starting in Switzerland and making my way to Turkey.
