We are currently renovating our house but as we are also working it seems to be one step forwards and two back! We live in a very rural area with our two teenage children, five llamas and three cats. We have our own pool, and immediate access to beautiful countryside for walking or cycling, and kayaks for the numerous rivers nearby. We are less than half an hour from the picturesque town of Brantome, also known as 'Little Venice' and near to famous troglodite caves of the Dordogne.
We are just over an hour south of Limoges airport which uses Ryanair and about an hour from Angouleme train station; we would be happy to collect you.
We can use most skills at the moment; we need to re-roof,we are using hay bales to create new rooms, we have an external natural stone wall to build, tiles to lay outside and inside, and any help with the garden would be useful.
We are offering accommodation in our large old comfortable caravan, and meals (with of course French wine!) in exchange for 4 hours work per day (although we are very flexible about the times that the hours are worked).
If you feel you would like to join us and have something to offer, please do get in touch.

the castle is in a small tranquil village 10km north of Bressure in the Deux-Sevre

The department of the Deux-Sèvres is part of the Poitou-Charentes region in western France and is the perfect place to unwind and relax.
In the Deux-Sèvres, a land with a highly strategic past and steeped in history, the unspoilt landscapes shelter an outstanding heritage: some of Europe’s most imposing Tumuli, Romanesque churches, châteaux, museums. From the greens of the marsh to the walls of Parthenay, the Deux-Sèvres has many stories to tell, from the pyramids built in the Neolithic period to the tagging trends of the Middle Ages, not to mention the powerful cities that blossomed well before the Renaissance. Along these paths, astonishment is at every turn!
Quiet roads will lead you to unexpected places; rivers, lakes, forests, historic towns, small villages with colorful markets and, during the summer months, a range of festivals and events. There is also a biodiversity of flora and fauna here which is carefully preserved to keep the area unique.

Local facilities:
fishing, walking, outdoor swimming pool (10km), cycling, castles, museums, water theme park, local festivals, bars and restaurants.

Working Holiday in La Creuse France http://www.bug.co.uk/forums/discussion/5844/working-holiday-in-la-creuse-france Sun, 21 Feb 2010 16:47:29 -0500 Zara 5844@/forums/discussions We are a English couple renovating a small country estate in La Creuse, France. We are approximately 90 mins from Limoges airport.

La Creuse is in the Limousin Region, boardering on the Auvergne. Just an hours drive from the Puy de Domes, a beautiful range of extint volcanoes.

The area is known as France's "Lake District" and there are many lakes which have beaches in the area. The biggest lake, Lac de Vassivière, is 1000 hectares and has watersports, boat trips and fishing available. There is an arts centre on the island in the centre of the lake (which you can reach by way of a long bridge, either by walking or catching a ride on the "train" for a small fee). Here in the summer you will also find concerts, and Fêtes

We are situated at the gateway to the Plateau de Millevache, which means thousand springs. It is this plateau which provides us with the Eau de Source which makes the water from the tap just as good (better I would say!) than bottled water.

There are plenty of places to fish (even night carp fishing) and if golf is your bag, the golf course at Bourganeuf (30mins away) is a good one. There are also courses near the Lac de Vassivière and in the Auvergne in the direction of Clermont Ferrand.

Local facilities:

Watersports, horse riding, golf within 30 mins drive, fishing, cycling, museums, local festivals, bars, restaurants.

Current projects:

Floor boarding, plaster boarding, plastering, tiling, cement mixing, general renovation, preparing and painting windows. Clearing of weeds, grass cutting, establishing a vegetable garden, clearing fresh water pool etc. No experience is necessary but would be an advantage.

We offer free accommodation in the form of a small caravan or camping with food included, in return for working 6hrs per day, 5 days a week.

We are looking for people for gardening and clearing the grounds, help with renovating, joinery, building, painting, decorating and all general renovation work.

We chose the farm, because it is secluded and sourrounded by its own meadows and woods, close to the lovely ancient town of Angouleme (10 min.), a cycle ride to the charente river for canoing, swimming and fishing, 1 hour from the sea and of course it is right next to the Cognac region!

It is beautiful, but a lot of work: we are currently fencing 30 hectars of land for the horses (so far just our two), trying to keep up with grass cutting, eliminating invasive bamboo, setting up a veg patch and doing some basic maintenance on the house.

Do you see yourself helping with this? Volunteers will be accomodated either in the main house or the gite next door, which was renovated 2 years ago. Food is provided too. In exchange for 6 hours work per day, 5 days per week. Weekends are off....

If you are interested give us a call on 0033 545647589 (leave a message, as we are probably working in the field)....]]>

the castle is in a small tranquil village 10km north of Bressuire in the Deux-Sevre

Local facilities:
fishing, walking, outdoor swimming pool (10km), cycling, castles, museums, water theme park, local festivals, bars and restaurants.

within easy reach:
futuroscope scope, Puy du Fou, Medieval town of Parthenay with its festivals and banquets, vineyard's, under ground caves, troglodytes ( 40km of underground caves) and much more
