I was looking at car rental websites for a quote on a small manual car rental in North America (it doesn't matter if it is rented in Canada or the US as long as I can drive it in both countries), however no rental company seems to have want I am after.
The car absolutely positively has to have a manual transmission. There is no way I am driving an automatic.
It has to be a small car. They are cheaper to run, easier to park and more fun to drive. However what most US car rental companies call a compact is what I would call a medium to large car.
Why can't I just get a nice manual Renault Twingo? I would even go for something as big as a Clio.
As an alternative I may buy a car and sell it when I have finished. Do many US used car dealers sell cars to travellers with a guarranteed buy back price?
Why can't I just get a nice manual Renault Twingo?
Because Renault hasn't even attempted to sell cars in North America is the last 20ish years?
You're not likely to be able to rent a car with a standard transmission. Too many people used to rent a car just to learn to drive standard. With a little practice it's pretty easy to learn to drive an automatic. It'll feel funny until you get the hang of it, once you figure out how much to accelerate and where it shifts you'll get a great ride and it's more fuel efficient than a standard.
Registering and insuring a car usually requires having a local address, so you're going to have trouble. People do manage to do it, but often they're on a WHV and stay in one place long enough to have a permenant address and insurance there.
I want to donate my car to a charity. I do want to recieve a tax deduction, but I don't want it to go to just any charity I would very much like my car to go to a needy family. I am in the Houton area. Can anybody help me or have any sugestions.
That is so nice collection.Well after finding your this comment there is no need for any book reading search of last few years.I like your idea for distributing the books by years.
I heard used car prices in US vary from state to state. Which is a cheaper state from where we can buy a used car. I am looking for a Sedan at around $6.5k
Car prices do vary but when I looked into it, all in, the cost was just astronomical. I ended up ditching that plan and hitching through the states. It was amazing and I am so glad I did it now. I would recommend it to anyone. Maybe give it some thought?
There is no better way to enjoy your trip to North America then touring by car. lastminute.com makes North America car hire very accessible and affordable. When you have the freedom to decide where you want to go, the choices are unlimited. Why not take one of America's iconic scenic routes, the Blue Ridge Parkway, also known as Appalachian Scenic Highway?
Running for 469 miles along the Blue Ridge spine of the Appalachian Mountains, this spectacular route passes through North Carolina and Virginia. Starting on the boundary between the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Cherokee Indian Reservation, it winds along, climbing to 3,000 ft in the Black Mountains and 6,000 ft in the Balsam Mountains, always avoiding the Interstate Highway system, to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.
Crossing 400 streams and with views down into the valleys, making it possible to see all four seasons at once, the Blue Ridge Parkway is best seen in spring when the rhododendrons and azaleas flower, or in autumn, when the blazing colours of the forest foliage are at their best.
Other great US drives include Route 50, starting at Ocean City in Maryland and stretching over 3,000 miles to West Sacramento, California. The road passes through mountains and deserts and through 12 states. Route 66, running from Chicago to Los Angeles through the Midwest, no longer exists in its original form, but you can drive parts of it.
The Natchez Trace Parkway, from Nashville, Tennessee to Natchez, Mississippi, will let you get a taste of the South and Elvis country, the Great River Road follows the path of the meandering Mississippi. Finally the Pacific Coast Highway and Florida Highway 1 are some of the other spectacular options.
America is so vast (3.5 million square miles), with such a varied geography and climate that whatever time of the year you visit there will be something to see and do. Summers can be unbearably hot in the southwestern desert areas but are mild and pleasant in New Hampshire, Connecticut and Maine.
