Ross (owner) is very friendly gave us heaps of info and made us feel welcome. Room clean and tidy, heaters in rooms. Toilets/showers are clean. Kitchen clean/tidy.

Great location. Locals said its one of the best in katoomba, I would recommend it.

The Flying Fox is a fantastic place to be!

You will find the cosiest lounge ever, a warming fire at night in the chill-out hut and everything else a backpacker needs.

I've never experienced such a positive atmosphere or felt so much at home in any other hostel!!!

The staff is very friendly and humorous and the only danger is that you might end up staying for weeks and weeks and weeks -but you will not be the only one...

We arrived in Sydney almost a year ago and didn't really know where to go first. So we decided to have a look at the blue mountains. The Flying Fox was a great first experience! Now that we have travelled all over Australia and New Zealand we can tell it is one of the best places to stay. Chilled out atmosphere, friendly owners (Ross and Wendy), nice music and really easy to meet people (quite important when you just started travelling and don't know what to do and where to go). We loved it :)

I absolutely loved the Flying Fox Backpackers and the Blue Mountains and would highly reccomend it to anyone! It has a laid back cozy atmosphere, and the owners Ross and Wendy are extremely nice and helpful. The lounge and fireplace are great when the weather isn't, but the best was all the good times visiting with others around the outside fireplace under the little hut. There is also a really great fruit and vegetable shop next door, and tons of great trails and waterfalls around. I've been to the Flying Fox twice already since arriving in Australia, and I'm sure I will be back there before I go home! Wouldn't stay anywhere else in Katoomba!

The owner is very greedy, he doesn't spend money on the place, and ***EDITED TO COMPLY WITH BUG'S REVIEW GUIDELINES***, there is not enough toilets in the place. Not a very clean kitchen either.

I traveled for 8 months, went to 4 countries, and spent 4 months all over OZ. I returned to BMB "the flying fox" 7 times in my 8 months. I felt more at home there than even at my real home some times. The owners are still 2 of the most fantastic people I've ever known, and are beautiful people with open hearts, and hostel. If I were to chose to leave soon again, I would come right back to this place.

I've spent three monthsin Australia, travelling around, and this backpacker was clearly the best.We had spent the day in sydney, walking a lot, and were ready to have a great walk the day after in the mountains. The night was so excellent!!!!there were sheets, clean ,very clean rooms, perfect bathrooms...

there was a good breakfast, and very nice staff!

Moreover the people ,we were sharing the room with ,were very respectful, which was not often the case!!

the blue mountains are such a lovely place, don't go to sydney, without having a look at the three sisters!!

Travelling down the east coast from Cairns I have been to some horrible place and some great places. Though this is the best place by far. It isn't perfect but for $19 a night its great value. My advice get out of sydney and spend some time in the mountains. Also they now have a great internet room with really fast broadband internet.

By the way the largest dorm sleep 8 and the other 2 sleep 7 though there massive. Also there prices are:

Dorms: $19 for VIp, $20 Normal

Privates: $54 for VIP, $56 Normal,

Camping:$13 per person (no discounts)

They also have weekly rates!

They don't give YHA discount as they are a VIP hostel. (there also about $5 cheaper than the YHA so whos complaining)

This is not an exaggeration at all. it was my first hostel in australia (besides in Sydney), and I had the most amazing time along the fire, people and athmosphere in this small yet cozi backpackers. a great gateaway for tracks along the blue mountains. it proves that need only good people and a working fire to make an evening interesting.

I stayed there for a week in 2000. A nice comfortable laid back hostel which is what I was looking for after 3 months of backpacking along the east coast. Reminded me of a old house I use to live in years ago when I was a younger man.
