They say its all about location location location. 'They' maybe right but that's all this place has got going for it. I stayed in twin costing $84 a night that for a room that looked like a prison cell is a bit much regardless of location. The kitchen was v poor, the showers cold and beds flimsy and squeaky. Having said all that security was good and the location is ideal but it was lacking atmosphere.

I stayed here a few times in the past year but found it lacked something. Sure, it's clean and there's a bar and it's fairly secure, but somehow it just lacked personality. Maybe it's just that everytime I stayed here I ended up in a room full of girls who were in Sydney on a shopping trip. Wanderers certainly has a great location and all the mod cons, but it's so big, with no adequate communal area, that solo travellers might want to look for somewhere cosier and friendlier.

This hostel is in an amazing position, around the corner from Darling harbour, a five minute walk to the shops and about 15 minutes walk to circular quay. I thought that it was great value for money as they were doing a deal for a 2 week stay $17 a night. The rooms are quite clean, beds a bit noisy. Very friendly staff and very fit aussie bar man called steve mmm. Would recommend leaving all valuables at reception as had my credit card taken from my backpack by someone staying just one night ba**ard. Bar very cheap beer and food very good and amazingly cheap. All in all a big thumbs up.

In a nutshell, Wanderers on Kent must be one of the most expensive hostels in the area, but does not have the facilities to match the asking price. The kitchens here are very poor, with barely enough room to swing a cat and no decent area provided to eat your dinner. I also found that the showers and toilets were beginning to fall into a slightly bad state of repair, and the room I was staying in was certainly not clean. If you're after somewhere sociable, then this is certainly not the place for you. I found it to be very inpersonal, and the areas provided for socialising outside of the bar are very poor indeed. The lockers provided are also very expensive, and no luggage storage is provided outside of these, which means forking out for a large locker if you need to leave a bag at the hostel after checking out. These charges are a bit of a kick in the teeth considering the price you pay for a bed.

The hostel is brilliantly situated - a couple of minutes walk to the harbour and to the main shopping areas. All the main attractions are fairly close by and within easy walking distance. Although i thought it was fairly expensive the rooms were clean and the facilities are pretty good. Staff are really helpful and the hostel has its own travel agency and job desk. They do like to shift you into different rooms for no obvious reason. The 4 bed dorms are a good size with quite a bit of space but the 6 bed dorms are a bit tighter fit. It was pretty easy to make friends with the others in the hostel as it isn't too big and the bar on the ground floor is really handy if you just want a couple of drinks and a fairly quiet night. Overall an excellent hostel and a great base for seeing Sydney. If you are staying in Sydney for a week or more I'd recommend this place as one of the best hostels to pick.

As part of our travel package, we stayed here for our first two nights in Australia. It's well-located in the city centre, within walking distance of all the main attractions in Sydney. However, it costs about 30 dollars a night for a six-bed dorm room - that is not cheap. There are big shared bathrooms on each corridor and you frequently see naked people taking showers - not my cup of tea - it may be yours!so in short, it might prove a good place to start your aussie adventure, but don't stay too long - find a suburb that suits you and go find somewhere cheaperhave fun, rob

Clean, furnished dorms, excellent security, reception were pretty helpful and the location is really good. Quite expensive but I guess this is Sydney. Also probably not so good if you're planning a long-term stay as it can be a bit impersonal but otherwise go for it!

This place is okay - its clean and the dorms are a good size. It can seem very impersonal though. The showers are shocking (but they are very clean - which is better than some places) with no where even to put your stuff while you have a shower. Security is good with key card access to all rooms. Staff are reasonably friendly but don't go out of their way. It can be impersonal, although it does seem to attract a good crowd. I agree this place is a bit overrated. If you're looking for a place just for a few nights its ok, but I wouldn't recommend any longer. And if you want to be in the city centre, its very central and handy to everything. IF you're with a group it might be okay, but travelling alone I found it to be too impersonal. They have a pretty good bar though, which is always appreciated!

While clean, secure and having some good facilities, I think that Wanderers is over-rated. Firstly, there seems to be too much money-making going on through very expensive internet, and the cooking facilities are very poor unless you are a microwave genius. No utensils were available except plastic stuff you could only use once, according to somebody who did some cooking there. However, the bar is ok, and there seems to be a good crowd that stays there. Its fine for a few days, just bear the above in mind, I wouldn't knock it too much.
