i came up to sydney for a weekend to visit a mate, but ended up staying here and extending my stay for a week! Great for a single traveller as it's heaps easy place to meet people. I couldn't believe there were places like this that gave you free alcohol plus there was even a free pool table. I was impressed with the clean bathrooms as i had expected all hostels to be dumps after my previous stay in one. But this place was both chilled *and* clean. Would def. stay here again.

Booked in thinking this was another hostel, originally called CB Hotel, as other reviewer mentioned the reception is tidy and bright but the rest of the place is terrible, the floors are dirty, rooms smell, and the windows are clouded with dirt. There weren't even curtains the first night I stayed. There are only three gas rings for all 200-plus people too. Made the mistake of paying for 3 nights to get cheaper room rates, don't do the same, stay well away!

The hostel is in a great location, right in the centre. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Hasnt got the greatest kitchen so best to eat out. The rooms are ok, but matresses are v.thin and some of the rooms only have a view of other windows! They do have loads of entertainment on with free wine and snacks! Ok hostel.

The Maze is a good hostel to stay in if you are not bothered about cooking (not the greatest of kitchens) or sleeping in really nice beds - matresses a little thin. Nonetheless - staff very friendly, lots of themed nights help you to meet others, with lots of prizes and usually a hangover thrown in for nothing. Very laid back.

really cool staff here, very friendly and helpful. they knew where everything was in sydney and what to do. nothing was ever a problem. all of them f***ing rocked. this place is old, but has a cool vibe to it. definately worth checking out!!

Just a gross, gross filthy disgusting revolting place - needs a good wrecking ball. Don't be fooled by the nice lobby area it doesn't reflect the rest of the place by any means. An absolute hole.

Stayed here for alot longer than i accepted i would. Really good atmosphere with very helpful staff, many of whom live there as well. There is something to do almost every night. Good place to party and meet other people. Initially was going to stay for 3nights but it became 2 weeks. Highly recommend to you if travelling to Australia I had the time of my life. (also try and time your stay for a Friday night Wine and Cheese night........it was really fun).

Dont stay here if you want a clean room and breathable air!!!! We checked in early and didnt get back until 10pm that night and they still had not cleaned the disgusting room that they had given us. The facilities are old and dirty, I really dont know how some of the people could eat in the common area, it was all really gross. The showers dont look like they get cleaned everyday, there were plasters and god knows what else in there. It was bad enough that as soon as we checked in, we went out and found another backpackers to stay in for the rest of our stay. This place really grossed me out. It smelt like smoke the whole time. eewww its just all really bad. Dont go here, its not even worth the price, we paid $5 more in a Surfers Backpackers, and got a CLEAN double room with an ensuite! This is way overpriced and Im sure there must be a whole lot of Health & Safety issues here.
