This hostel is in a great location right opposite the Domain Car Park where you can use the express walkway to get into town, and then walk through beautiful Hyde Park. Very convenient for the city and getting out of the city as many bus routes leave from Elizabeth St, just the other side of the park. The rooms are all decent size with nice tall bunks, individual reading lights and good lockers. Security is good with the key card system. Bathroom, showers and toilets on each level are kept nice and clean... although for a while the sanitary bins in the ladies desparately needed changing.. yuk! But generally speaking very clean! There is a cool water fountain on each level too. The kitchen is nice and big and the facilities pretty good, if a little dirty by the end of the day... to be expected? Will definitely stay there again if I go back to Sydney :0)

The first time I came here was the beginning of December. Now if I go back to Sydney, this will be my hostel. I ve been there three times now. It's clean, spacious, free breakfast (and I mean orange juice, milk, cereal, bread, jam and butter), helpfull staff, personal lockers. It's a great location if you wnt to go to concerts in the city center, read a book in the Domain, across the Road. Not noisy, but in reach of Kings Cross, not to busy, but within 10 minutes of Townhall. It's Perfect!!

We stayed in the harbour city hostel for nearly one month over christmas and new year's eve and we had the best time in sydney. Unfortunately we couldn't make it that often to the good free breakfast, because we had great parties nearly every night on the balcony on the first floor. It is the best place to meet new people and to have loads of fun with them. Besides there is always a cute guy whose company no one would like to miss;-)

Furthermore we never had a friendlier receptionalist than the sweet bavarian girl "KERSTIN".

Harbour City was home from home. I stayed in an 8 bed dorm for 3 months!!!!!!!! (all of us 8 stayed for the three months....) And we had a blast. I swear we were like a family. I do agree it is full of Brits and us Irish but most hostels in oz are...... It was a clean hostel but as always it is only as clean as the travellers using it!!!!! This is no reflection on the excellent staff.

Cheap and always Cheerful!!!!!!

This hostel had quite a few upsides, and downsides. Firstly hostels in Sydney tend to be a little expensive (the YHA costs almost $30 a night!), making this hostel mid-range price. The building has a lot of character, being an old, slightly worn once "classy" hotel. The rooms often have great views (we had one looking over downtown, and the parks in the Woolloomooloo area). They also have huge lockers for storage there too. Cleaning, however is not done too often, so if others before you were pigs (which some backpackers often are) there is a chance the room might be messy/dirtty (ours was a little). The kitchen appliances were good, utensils o.k., but the dishes you put a deposit on to get are in poor condition, and missing items. The hostel is in a good area, with Hyde park (beautiful) and St. Mary's Cathedral a short walk away. Staff at the time were a little cool (not very friendly), but were fairly helpful.

I stayed here for 5 days but didn't like it at all. A big, unpersonal place with lots of English ppl. The rooms were small and fairly dirty, just as the toilets/showers. We had to ASK for them to be cleaned. Also, the kitchen wouldn't open before 7 or 8 am which is very annoying if you have to leave for work early. It's quite a long walk to Pitt Street (20-25 mins), but they still charge top-location rates. No value for money at all.

Simply brilliant. Very clean, very safe. Excellent location. Rooms are superb, and yes, balconies and on siute if you are nice to the staff. Book all your tours, buses etc. Great atmosphere and great pubs in close vicinity. Oh, and the links with the 2 best nights in Oz for backpackers - Mon at the Scubar and Sun at the Neighbours nights. Best city hostel in Oz, and I know, cos Ive been to most of them.

harbour city is ideally located, just 10 min walk from opera house and city centre. it can be noisy at weekends - very noisy in fact - but during the week it's pretty quiet as about 80 of guests are actually working. great little pub just around the corner too! i stayed in an 8 bed dorm which wasn't too bad as there are plenty of lockers - we even had an en suite bathroom and balcony! great place to get to know fellow travellers, but you'll probably limit yourself to just brits and irish - these are the main people who stay at the harbour city.
