Place seems ok. nice staff, good location in the kings cross area, facilities ok. A little on the sleepy side but this kinda makes it easier to meet the people there. After 1 night 2 of us in my room had a bad case of the bed bug itches. Only stayed one night but the pain and itching lasted for over a week. May be an isolated incedent but 2 of us in the same room (did not know each other) was all it took for me. Try the pink house in kings cross- very social - family atmostphere with a good mix of party.

I have no idea if Simon (see below) and I actually stayed in the same hostel! The Blue parrot is a very friendly hostel, I have made several friends from there whom I fully intend to stay in contact with! It's in a good location, close to everything, but just far enough away from the Cross and the Empire is just around the corner. Lovely courtyard out the back, cable TV (the Simpsons is never quite the same outside of that TV room). Very clean (I should know I did the cleaning!) If this weren't a good hostel then I wouldn't have spent almost 6 months staying there. Ther kitchen could do with a few more pots and pans and not a good place if your allergic to dogs, but apart from that a great place to stay.

It all depends on what you're looking for at the end of the day. If you come to the cross, there are lots of places to stay. This one is a bit of a trek from the station compared to others. Something should compensate for this, but I don't think something does. It is small so those who like small hostels here is one, but then again, there are other small hostels closer to the station. The TV room is a bit drabby and they are low on ideas when it comes to providing some sort of communal activity. Quite clean, but then again, so are some other hostels in the area. Not all are filthy! Nothing really to criticise here, but then again, nothing to praise.

This is a great place to stay, clean and friendly - staff and guests included.

The owners are a bit mad - why they don't leave the running of the hostel to the backpacking staff that they hire, I don't know.

Knocking off a star for the dog - it drools, chews and steals food - surely it shouldn't be there? And the opening hours - Mon-Fri it is never open at 8:30am like it says, more like 10am, but other than that good hostel, I'd definitely stay there again.

Had a fantastic time in this hostel....Booked in for one week, stayed for 5 months! It was my Sydney home away from home...Staff are amazingly friendly (Nadia, Lisa, Christina, Nick-cleaner 1, Guy-cleaner 2 and, of course, Lily the dog)...met loads of wicked people and regularly joined the CRANKS for nights out down The Cross... Big-up The Blue Parrot Massive! Hungry Jack's anyone? Oh, and Sol Campbell WAS in Snatch, heehee!!

Finding the Blue Parrot hostel was a real result. The hostel is brilliantly located being only a couple of minutes walk from Kings Cross and fifteen minutes walk from the centre of town (CBD). However the real attraction to the hostel is the fact that it is clean, well laid out, homely and above all staffed by the friendliest staff imaginable. The hostel staff make every effort to make you really feel at home and are always on hand to offer you advice and guidance on what to see and do in Sydney. This hostel is quieter than many of the nearby "party" hostels and is very clean and well looked after, which can be rare in Sydney. Highly recommended.

the blue parrot hostel is brilliant. having been in many hostels, this one is a cut above the rest. it's fully equipped, clean, comfortable and the manager, gareth, is friendly and helpful. the blue parrot is like a second home to me now.

I found Blue Parrot on advice from friends back home.It was just like they said & so much more-extremely clean, safe, central & oh so relaxed! But I've never met so many fantastic people in my life! They were all so happy to be there,so when I had to go home I realised how deeply I'd miss it.This friendly, warm & unique atmosphere is made possible by Gareth & his team.I have some of the best memories of my life thanks to Blue Parrot.
