Overall the experience is one I care not to repeat. If you're interested in a holiday with a cranky manager then by all means stay there. The rooms were okay but the shared kitchen facilities were very dirty and in dire need of a clean even though there was some attempt to clean them everyday. The only thing that saved the whole stay here was the fact it was quite central and of course the pleasant staff under the cranky manager!

This is a great place, out of all the hostels I've ever stayed in, the Blue Parrot felt the most like home.

Relaxed atmosphere, small, and real easy to meet people. Next time I come to Oz, I'll make sure to stay at the Parrot.

All you have to do is take a break at the Blue Parrot Backpackers. What a place!!

Having had enough of the typical British winter blues, I decided to take a few weeks out to the Land of Oz, All by my tod! Backpacking is great, but one can feel a little lonely at times.

I came across the Blue Parrot Backpackers on my travels, and boy was I impressed.....No soon as I had arrived there, I felt as though I had known everyone for many years. With such a warm and friendly welcoming, I no longer felt alone. Gareth and his colleagues made sure that my stay in Sydney was most pleasurable and memorable!

The Botanical Gdns are a must, such beauty!

If ever you feel blue - do as I did, visit the Blue Parrot and have a wonderful time in Sydney, It's worth missing the British Blues.... Look forward to my next visit again soon.

This was my 4th Visit in 2 Years, and I found the Hospitality, cleanliness and professionalism beyond perfection. Nothing will ever be too much of a problem with Gareth and his Team, and I was made to feel like somebody very special on each occasion I visited. I have travelled all over the World, staying in all types of Hostels from Southern America, to Eastern China, and, without a doubt, Blue Parrot BackPackers is a cut well above the rest. I will visit again at the end of 2002, and this time I will stay for Two weeks, rather than 4 days... It really is like a Home from Home, but better! Gareth, I Hope you read this, and I hope you remain there for a long time to come!

SOUR GRAPES ?

Reffering to the previous reviewer(18) from Tipperary Ireland,I would like to ask you: are you by any chance one of the gang of 4 that were evicted from the "Blue Parrot" earlier this month for bad manners ? This is my 3rd visit to the Parrot in 9 months of travelling the east coast of Australia, and I did not come across a better Backpackers. I am going home in a few days and a big thank you must go out to all the staff at the Parrot, they made my stay.

I spent nearly two years travelling and the Blue Parrot is by far the best hostel I ever came across - lovely staff, brilliant location, great facilities and an amazing bunch of people. If you're in Sydney even just for a few days, see for yourself.

I made allowances for the fact that the busy season is upon us. However, this doesn't justify trying to squeeze six people and their travelling equipment into a space only suited to four. It wasn't until two people moved out that I had enough space to take some of my luggage off the end of my (top bunk) bed.

To add to that discomfort, when I did get to bed there wasn't a single night there when there wasn't some kind of hullabaloo outdoors that kept everyone awake; drunk people banging doors, chatting outside on the stairwell, not knowing how to move around quietly at night or display even a little decorum. Subsequent to my stay I found out that I could have had some discount by presenting my Global Gossip card; this was never pointed out at the time of checking in.

I stayed three nights there, and overall it's an experience I do not wish to repeat for quite a while!

I spent 6 weeks travelling down the australian east coast and this was one of the best hostels I stayed in, the people were so friendly and I had such a laugh. Excellent for the sights and sounds of Sydney. If you are a backpacker wanting somewhere with atmosphere and outgoing people then do not stay anywhere else!

Coming to the Blue Parrot was the best thing I ever did in Australia. The place is the best, its clean, relaxed and everyone is made to feel part of the family. I have met some of my best friends here and enjoyed an excellent christmas. Gareth and the team know how to make your stay worth while, after being here for 3 months I went off travelling and theres no place like it, coming back was great just like coming home. In all I 've been here nearly 9 months and I will be sad to go and leave this place behind. Trust me when I say once you have been here a day you will want to keep coming back. The tours, barbie and pub treks, its all here. Its got all the comforts of home wrapped up in ozzie flavour!!

I arrived in australia last november with the intention of passing through sydney, in the end I stayed for 8 months of my trip in the blue parrot backpackers. An experience of Australia which I believe should be an essential part of every backpackers travels. The hostel has a great management team, helpful and friendly, always on hand to help, and provide round the clock security. Blue parrot becomes a home which is hard to leave, and if it wasnt for me mum wanting me home I'd stay indefinately. A hostel which is situated on the doorstep of many great cafe's, bars, restaurants and shops, with an atmosphere of excitement!!!!!
