Upon entering the Pink House, I thought it was pretty old and funky. But then it grew on me and my 4-day stay was extended to 2 weeks. Its very homey and really a good location and most of the people are long-termers and work so there isn't a lot of noise. I found the people at reception very friendly and helpful. I'd stay there again.

I just stayed at this hostel last month for four days and I was very impressed. The Pink House is well-reviewed in the 2003 edition of Let's Go, and for good reason. The staff was really friendly as soon as I arrived and made me feel at home - a girl met me outside and helped me to carry my bags in! It was like a big, cozy, comfy house. The common room was great - there are two - one for reading and one with a TV. There were nightly movies. Sometimes the staff cooked great dinners and you just pitched in $5 for a feast! They always had outings too, mainly to World Bar, a great bar/club just down the road. Breakfast was included in the price, as well as a FREE 20-min internet session. They were brilliant with setting up day trips like to the Blue Mountains, as well as other packages. If you go to the Blue Mountains, go with MOUNTAIN ESCAPES - they're the cheapest and I had a wonderful time!! They also gave discounts for stays longer than a week - many of the people who I met there were working in Sydney. I'd recommend The Pink House because it was clean, friendly, had a great common room, and was in a great location. It's a 5-minute walk to the Kings Cross subway. Although the hostel is in Kings Cross, it's on a quiet street that is safe at night. The courtyard and balconies are also quite nice. You won't be bothered by the madness of Darlinghurst, but you're close to all the, um, action. Some people don't want to stay in "The Cross" because of its reputation, but let me tell you, it's worth it just to SEE some of the stuff that goes on there! And the bars are fun! What personality. What a great hostel :)
