Dirty bathroom, dirty tables, unvacuumed floors, stinky sheets, and the airconditioning is only on at night and is freezing!!! Sorry, nothing was good about this place. Even the common kitchen area was scary and wearing a fleece to bed shouldn't be an option.

When we arrived the floors weren't vaccuumed and the women's bathroom was scary. The staff weren't particulary nice and the general areas like the kitchen and lounging area was just crusty. No one mentioned in their review that its a little bit out of town, not by much, but you definately have to walk at least 5 minutes to town, which is only a 3 or 4 block stretch. Blah. Oh and I can't forget to mention the smelly sheets and the ice cold airconditioning, which is off during the day and automatically on at night. Be sure to wear a fleece when sleeping.

in 5 months of travel this was my worst night! There was no manager when we arrived so all the part-time staff decided to go out for the whole evening. At 11:30 pm we went to bed to find hundreds of bed bugs in all of our beds. WE went to find some staff but they were all out. We eventually left and had to stay in another place. In the morning we returned to ask for a refund. The young girl at the counter refused, and would nt let us talk to the manager ( as she was scared to contact her as the wholestaff had been out that evening). After 20 mins of me shouting at her she eventually gave me a refund. AS we left another 4 people were given our room, without it being cleaned. Its disgraceful that travellers should have to put up with this type of filthyness because thay are on a budget.

This hostel was fantastic, I have stayed in various hostels up the coast during my 3 month travels here and this has been by far the best. The staff are so helpful and really go out of their way to help guests feel welcome in the hostel. The facilities were great and I liked the trivia night, what a great idea!! Keep up the good work By the Bay staffy's, you rule

a nice change to only share with three other people in dormitory rooms. a very nice experience to have hostel staff who remember your name and don't try to push you to buy trips and beer from you all the time. also enjoyed their little bar area - good place to look out over the water around the pool while having a glass of wine. I highly recommend this place if you don't want one of the big hostels with hundreds of people and lots of noise at night.

I enjoyed everything in this backpacker. The other backpackers, the setting, Nick with his happy hour, .... The place if you want to meet more mature backpackers with a social attidute and just enjoy the day.

Stayed here two evenings, and really enjoyed it. The trivia contest for a free bottle of champagne gave us a chance to get to know other travelers. This is away from the noise and crowds of Airlie Beach, though only a 5-minute walk away. Nice pool, nice view. Free pickup at the bus station, plus a bus stop nearby. The rooms are very basic, but who spends much time in the room?

If you like to be able to get away from the party scene (after partying, of course), then this is the place to be. It's a short walk to the bars and stores, but far enough away so that you can sleep at night.
