this hostel probably used to be excellent, now the dorm rooms are crammed, 9 beds in what would have been a decent 6 bed dorm. Kitchen isn't very good as it has a reteraunt on site, and of course a bar which means you can't drink your own resonably priced alcohol. The staff, other than the bus driver were the most unfriendly i have found in Oz, Always hassling and miserable, unless we caught then on an off few days!!We did a trip to Fraser Island from here which is very good and worth doing, just probably from an other hostel.A pure money making hostel, not intersted in your needs.

Finally I get around to submitting a review of the best hostel in Oz! Stayed here for around 3 months after supposedly arriving for only a couple of nights! Friendly? My adopted Mum (Heidi) and Dad (John) gave such a good welcome I couldn't leave, and the brothers and sisters (Mark, the Helens, Tinker, the Heathers, Barb, Aunty Lyn, staff all) made the adventure absolutely epic! I dare anyone to find a friendlier place on the planet! Atmosphere - beware of getting thrown in the pool after a few too many!! Everybody welcome provided they don't want to cause grief. The alternative is... well... don't even go there! Great laugh, great company. These people have convinced me to emigrate... still trying to find a way! Location - 30 yards from the beach... where better to sleep off a hideous hangover! Middle of town, shops, cafes, restaurants and bars all around if you can be bothered after a typical night of drunken debauchery (maybe that was just me?).Security - don't even try to get in without a key! I lived there and still have scars to prove how difficult it is when you've forgotten your key! Best bet, sleep on the beach or in the yard! I particularly remember a nice spot of soft concrete out back.... another story. As for tours, you'd think they were booking themselves (and they generally do on days off!), first class advice and service, hell, I even a had a night on the piss with the guy who pushed me out the aeroplane! These people know their shit! Any help, advice, local knowledge (best place to get prawns! I didn't even eat seafood!!!). 4WD tour a must, don't even think about the other dodgy f*&$%rs. These people will look after you, for sure.I can't emphasize enough how much of a good time I had at this place and how many wonderful people I met/got pissed with during my stay. Long live Fraser Roving! I'll be back, guys, as soon as I can make it!!!Take Care, AllAnyone goes, say hi to 2 o'clock Maurice, 3 o'clock Ron, Geoff, Widey and anyone else you see... they'll become best of mates in, oh, about thirty seconds....Great People, Great Place.

This is the best hostel I've been to so far. I spend about 3 weeks here because I waited for less windy weather to complete my diving course. The staff was always friendly and helpful. I spend lots of time in the clean and big pool and on the beach just across the street. There is a nice little bar where we had lots of fun not only on new years eve. They play good music all the time. Although I originally didn't want to stay so long in such a small place like hervey bay I nearly wasn't bored at all. There are lots of interessting tours to book directly at the hostel. An aircondition would have been a big plus...Thank you so much for having me here for so long and being so friendly to me even when I was in a bad mood because of the weather!

I stayed here in a big dorm with many single beds thankfully. It was really hot and there was no airco only ceiling fans. There was not much space in my room to put my bag and stuff. Also no power outlet so you have to charge your mobile and batteries in public areas (unsafe?). The bathroom was clean and spacious but so hot (no windows!). The kitchen was functionnal but small and only one cooking range, one microwave and a few small refregirators. The TV room was nice with really comfy couches. The pool area was also nice. The staff were friendly but also cranky! Strange... The Internet was alright though expensive (4$ an hour). The pick-up and drop-off are at fixed times to reach the different Greyhound busses so you get on that one or arrange your own means of transport (and the bus stop is far!). There are a few expensive shops around the hostel (convinience store, pharmacy, post office) and the beach is accross the street. It was an alright hostel.

This hostel is one of the best I have stayed at on my travels through New Zealand and Oz! It's modern, clean and spacious, but still retains a friendly cosy atmosphere! There's plenty of communal areas, from comfy sofas by the tvs and outdoor pool-side lounging! There is also a bar and cheap delicious snacks and meals available at the bistro. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, from arranging trips and buses to driving you on the courtesy bus to and from the main shopping centre for free! This is a place I wouldn't hestitate recommending and it's ideal location means you have the shops on the Esplanade alongside and the beach just across the road!

Fraser Roving is a really nice place to stay. I've travelled extensively across Australia & this hostel has to be among the best I've stayed at. It has a modern fresh feel & is clean & tidy. The staff are really lovely & can't do enough to help. They have a lovely pool, a great bar. There are 3 separate tv areas, an internet room & a great little bistro that serves homecooked food at really good prices. The dorms aren't crowded like in some places either. There is a courtesy bus to the local shopping centre & the hostel is across the road from the beach - what more could you ask for? I'd definitely come back & I'll be recommending it to anyone planning on visiting Hervey Bay.

I only stayed at Fraser Roving for one night of my trip, but it was a great experience and left a lasting impression. First, I was able to book a single room at a reasonable rate, which was a welcome change after the last place I'd stayed. The staff here was friendly and accommodating with everything from booking my tour to storing my luggage while I was on Fraser Island. They even let me use the shower and transferred me to the bus station when I returned from the island, even though I wasn't staying another night. John also helped me cut my luggage lock when it jammed (otherwise I might have had to break my zipper or cut my bag, which would have been a real bummer). Best of all was Heidi, who worked SO hard and went out of her way to make sure her guests were happy and comfortable. She was easily one of the nicest people I met in Oz. All in all, a good experience- I highly recommend this place.

stayed alot longer than intended at this really fun, laid back hostel. the staff are welcoming, helpful and up for a good laugh. they really create a comfortable atmosphere. the hostel is clean, has a nice pool, and the tv room is 24 hours. the food is also cheap and yummy. it also is well located to foodstores and other amenities.all in all, its a great place to chill out and relax, and is alot of fun at the same time.
