The Friendly Hostel, is one of the best we have seen on our trip around Australia. It was very clean and so friendly that you feel like you 've been at home. We will come back on our next tour through Australia. Thanks to Sheryle & Garry for the wonderfull time in Hervey Bay.

no wonder that "anonymous from the uk" didnt give their name - because they would be too embarrassed and ashamed to be proven to be completely wrong!!

the friendly hostel was the cleanest and most hygienic hostel that i have stayed in for a long while - and their prices are completely reasonable!

the both the owners were nothing but lovely and even drove us to the bus stop at 5am! the only complaint i have about the friendly hostel is that their isnt more of them.

The Friendly Hostel not only lives up to it's name, but is clearly the best hostel that I have ever seen. The facilities, cleanliness and general ambiance are just outstanding. The owners and staff are always so helpful and are really very special people.

An absolute pleasure, I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for the best in comfort and personal service. If there was such a thing as a six star rating, this hostel would easily qualify.

The last reviewer must have been having some kind of "bad hair day" - it makes us wonder whether they have the wrong hostel. This place is by far the best we have stayed in - it is absolutely immaculate and the kitchens spotless - no sign of any insects and there was a large sign about the day charge in the bedroom to use the kitchens, showers, TV/DVD etc after check out - we thought it was very reasonable and you don't have to pay the charge to sit on the veranda (there is no charge to sit on the veranda - we sat there for 6 hours, used toilets and even made some sandwiches without being charged a cent). The staff are all absolutely fantastic and went out of their way to make sure we were looked after. We chose to stay at The Friendly after at least 5 other people told us how fantastic it was and we were not disappointed. It really was a "home away from home" no overcrowding, fabulous beds, crisp fresh linen, and best of all very relaxing and peaceful.

Lots of hidden extra here! We arrived late one evening and left early the next day for our trip to Fraser Islands. We were charged $5 to store our luggage in their ropey garage.

On our return from Fraser we were staying 2 further nights. Got bitten to pieces in the bedrooms by not sure what and there were cockroaches in the kitchen.

Kick-out time was 10am and we were out of our rooms. Our bus wasn't until 1pm so we had a couple of hours to kill. We were charged $5 each to sit on the veranda whilst reading our books for 3 hours.

The chap was friendly enough but watch out for the scary cleaning lady!

Recommended - This is only the second hostel which I'm awarding a 5 star rating to in all my travels to Europe, Aus & New Zealand.

Good points - No bunks, 7 beds per unit, 1 unit includes own kitchen, shower, toilet, TV, DVD. Superb chilled out hostel which is needed after the madness of Airlie Beach or Noosa. Genuine recommendations on the best trips to Frazer Island & they're not after the highest commision. Free breakfast when booking. Free pick-up & drop off to bus station.

Not so good points - 15 minute walk to Woolworths supermarket.

Sheryl & her team run an example of how a hostel should be run. In fact other hostel owners should pay a visit to learn a thing or two. Yay you.

Does everyone mention above, this hostel is a really good hostel. You don't have to fight over TV channel, since only 7 people share a bathroon, TV, and kitchen. If you book Fraser Island tour through the hostel, you can even get a free breakfast! We will definitely come back to this hostel and Fraser Island!!

This is the place to stay in Hervey! Very well run and the family (owners) are very helpful. The DR we stayed in was fantastic with nice big bed and spotless.

One of the best hostels I´ve ever stayed in.

Hervey bay on the other hand is a really boring place so don´t spend more days than necessary (before and after your Fraser tour) here. Don´t pick an other hostel i Hervey.

I found Hervey Bay on the whole a rather unattractive and strange place. however whilst we were there we stayed at the 'friendly hostel' and it does live up to it's name. the apartments are very nice indeed and the owners very friendly and helpful. highly recommended.

Friendly, clean hostel. The staff were incredibly helpful and managed to secure great deals on our behalf to both Fraser Island and sailing in the Whitsundays. If/when we return to Hervey Bay we know where we'll stay!!
