we stayed here before going on our fraser trip. we got put in a dorm that was the "quietest" that they had!!!!! it was noisy everywhere and reception shut at 7pm, no staff to try and keep the noise down, when we asked to be moved cos the guys in our room where obnoxious and extremely loud we were told that we could get noisy people in any room so there was no point in moving! reception staff need some training in people skills. rooms average and no clean sheets unless you pay more!!

i stayed here last december. the location is good right on the strand near the beach. the hostel itself is ok although my room was right by the bathroom meaning i was kept awake most of the night by people flushing the loo and running water. you have to pay around $1.50 for bedding which takes the mickey. if you don't pay this then you are screwed as you have to lie on the mattress cover which is NOT changed between guests. the staff are courteous but the service is highly impersonal due to the size of the hostel. i wouldn't stay here again.

I loved this place, one of best places I stopped at on my whole trip. It's location is great, right across from the beach with supermarkets, bars, post office, chemist, internet cafe etc etc within a couple of minutes walk. "Beaches" and other hostels are a bit further out of the action.The rooms are basic, with 6 beds in 3 bunks, but clean and good value. The cleaner was in every day.The best thing is the bar...it wasn't exactly packed either night I was there, but the bar staff were so enthusiastic, and created loads of games (pool competition, card games etc) designed to break the ice and get everyone talking to each other. Met loads of people as a result and had two really good nights. Can't complement the bar guys enough.The kitchen was nice enough (although you do have to pay to get any cutlery/plates etc) and there is a nice pool and good laundry. The courtesy bus driver was pretty cool too.

i loved this hostel the staff were so friendly and helpful, as soon as i arrived they were able to help me organise my fraser trip and in the meeting that day they made sure we had all the info we needed, plus they put togeather a GREAT GROUP, fraser island is a must sooo beautiful. The rooms are basic , but clean and the location is the best right on the beach, with a real nice pool and next to all the shops. The bar was also fantastic (3 hours of happy hour prices pleased our group) with real up-for-it staff and there were loads of give-aways in the form of FREE alcohol and games all night, plus a late-nite licence. Everyone was so friendly and ready to help... god bless the reception staff they were so nice, even when they were well busy they spent as long as it took with you rather than rushing like so many other places... definately the best of the bay here .... cheers for a great stay guys!!!

Definately the worst backpackers during my travel along the east coast. You could see on the door that it had been kicked in many times, matress was as thin as lara flynn boyle, bathroom small and used by everyone, deposit for everything... Worst of all service at reception desk: I was checking out and waiting for my turn and the girl behind the counter was really getting annoyed with these two asian girls who understood english perfectly well but the girl just wouldn't listen. The asian CUSTOMERS were right and she just kept talking over them. Then when they finally agreed and left, the girl behind the counter said "oh I hate this fucking morning" with normal voice so everyone could hear her. Then she turned to me, and I said I'm checking out, and she went really annoyed "what, so you're not going on any tours or anything because..." "NO, I am checking OUT". All I got was frowned faces and rude answers. Backpackers don't have to be luxurious, we all know that, but you do want safety, clean room+bathroom, friendly service. Got none of that here. Saw beaches bp, looked nice, so did palace bp. Stay there is my suggestion.

I found this hostel very good; Helen the cleaning lady was in the room every morning to clean room. Witch a lot of backpackers dont do!! Also the bed sheets and pillowcases got changed every day. The staff were very helpful and told me everything I needed to know. All in all a very good hostel right in the hart of town.

We had the best time in Hervey Bay with Koalas. The staff were really friendly and helpful with lots to choose from for Fraser and other local tours. We had a great time exploring Fraser on our Self Drive which was really well organized with heaps to do and see. You can't miss out on Fraser while in Oz. We made heaps of friends both local and other travellers. The Hostel has great facilities with everything you could need - any requirements you have the staff will bend over backwards to please you. So try it out for yourself you won't be disappointed.

I found Koala a friendly and safe place to stay. great location, especially being opposite the beach. Being on the Esplanade was fantastic, easy access to shops. The atmosphere in the Entertainment/Bar section was always happening and got you in the mood. BIG, 2 thumbs up for the Chef as the food was splendid!! The staff were always more than happy to provide you with information on current tours,events, Fraser Island etc. Great place to stay would highly recommend to anyone.

after staying in Koala's in Noosa, i came here and i was extremely dissapointed. untidy hostel, rooms were dirty and unhelpful and useless staff. the bar aswell is pretty poor however i did enjoy the fraser island trip, but hervey bay itself is not too great, if you want to do fraser go from Rainbow Beach.

Checked in and wanted to leave straight away. Couldnt get a refund, staff were very rude, stayed one night. Dirty rooms and it is riddled with bed bugs. Everyone I have spoken to had been bitten. Do not stay here!!
