Plus: close to bus terminal; pleasant historic house and grounds; friendly staff.

Minus: If your bed is in the original historic house, don't expect to get much sleep. Putting bedrooms 5 yards away from a licensed bar with music till 11pm and chatter till midnight, all in a building with single skin timber walls and open ventilators, doesn't really work.

Kitchen & dining area is cramped.

NB Don't expect to get anything cheap in the nearby trendy shopping street. The ordinary folks' shops are over the hill 1km away.

the halse lodge is a lovely old fashioned building with lovely grounds. the inside is very attractive too and the facilities good. however the hostel is very noisy, the staff blasting the radio from reception from 6:45am onwards doesn't help either. there is also a bar in the hostel which means you aren't allowed to bring any alcohol of your own onto the grounds at all. i just found this place riddled with rules and rather irratating on the whole. which is a shame as it could be such a great hostel.

My stay in Noosa Heads was excellent. YHA Hostel rep met the bus and directed people up the hill to the hostel. That night there was a welcome meeting and free drink for new people to tell us about the hostel and activities in Noosa. There is a very nice common area with couches and tables. An on site bar and restaurant offers good meals and drink; not necessarily cheap but very good by Noosa standards. The 4 bed dorm was quite small but I met some fabulous people so I didn't mind the cramped quarters. Showers and toilets were clean and modern. The kitchen can get really busy and you have to pay a deposit for a cutlery/plate set which is a bit annoying. Overall, Noosa is a beautiful area, great beach and national park, decent shopping and restuarants. Also, Be sure to catch the free bus to Australia Zoo. The YHA topped-off a great visit.

The YHA is opposite the bus terminal and just 5 mins from the main beach and hastings street. Be prepered to pay big money here though $23 with yha dicount, bar and resturant are also expensive, dorms are ok, although for $23 would have liked cutains so the sun dosn't shine on you from 6am and a 4 bed dorm only had 2 lockers!!! Kicthen was small and eating area even smaller so that was a let down for the YHA. If you stay here theres a nice atmopshere and staff are friendly but remember to bring eye patches and ear plugs, as you can hear every footstep and door closing.

The Halse Lodge YHA is in a lovely old wooden building, with a really nice lounge area, it's own bar (small, but friendly), a small cafe and just up the road a bit from the main street in Noosa Heads, making it an ideal location. The only problem with it was that we had room number 15 which backs onto the lounge area on one side and the tv room on another wall - with all the walls being made of wood, the sound travels and we could hear people racking up the pool table and watching tv until quite late at night - so ask for another room if possible. If we'd have had another room though (were only there for 1 night) it would've been great!!

Nice location but found my dorm very stuffy at night as no a/c & a broken fan. You can hear every step around the hostel as the floors are wooden & people were stompinga round from 5am.

Kitchen rubbish, have to pay $10 for your crockery/cutlery & have to keep in dorm otherwise it gets pinched! Kitchen very busy & not particulary clean either. Probably nicer/cleaner places to stay in Noosa.

In Noosa this hostel was in by far the best location, very near the National Park, beach and shops. The staff were friendly, rooms and kitchen clean, and you could borrow surf boards and boogie boards for free. It does get booked up quickly though, so should book ahead.

I had the best time in Noosa and Halse Lodge was a big contributor to that. The building is a beautiful, turn of the century mansion with lots of character: huge wrap-around balconies with lots of comfy chairs, hardwood floors and cozy four bed dorms. My room had French doors that opened onto the balcony, and although the rooms are pretty tiny, there's built-in shelves for your stuff. There were even koalas in the trees around the property. The location is the best in Noosa... three minutes from the beach and the shopping/restaurant strip. The bathrooms were clean and there's a restaurant on-site that served the most amazing curries. The communal kitchen is in a separate building and had all the standard necessities. There's lockers, washing facilities, a ping pong table, internet terminals and a BBQ once a week. There's also a bar but it doesn't get too crazy at night - you'll sleep well.

This was the best place I've ever stayed. Just a beautiful location, and easy to get to, really friendly staff and an absolutely beautiful building. I would recommend this place to anyone travelling to Noosa. Really clean, and nice facilities. Nicest hostel in Australia!
