Was my first hostel stay in Australia so I initially thought this sort of place was the norm but thankfully it was not. The rooms are cramped and dark and have no air which is great for the hangover that you will no doubt have because going to the pub is the only thing you can do at night. During the day, well you are miles from anywhere although there is a shuttle. The kitchen is crap and internet expensive and the staff were doing the hard sell on stuff that I knew more about than they did.

the staff at the hostel are rude and are no help at all, when we asked what the best way to get to the nearby water park we were booked on the most expensive coach trip in the universe! the pub is very expensive for everything and has no atmosphere at all, just like the hostel itself, the rooms are grubby and the hostel is miles from any action. This one time when I was 12 i went to my local park and saw two guys kissing, I thought that was the gay-ist thing i have ever seen until I saw this hostel. No honestly dont bother!

Had an ok-ish stay here but unfortunatley the hostel staff didnt live up their usual bubbly, freindly and relaxed attitude! Everything seemed an effort to them and I found them unwilling to help or even interest me in anything Surfers Paradise has to offer which is really a great place! If I ever walked aroud with a face like a slapped bottom I wish someonw would tell me!

A nice quiet location, its about 50 mins walk into the heart of Surfers Paradise or you can get the free shuttle about 4-5 times daily. The 'resort' basicly consists of a stack of pokey, sweaty rooms above some marina style businesses, and a quaint pub, built on a wharf. **Bringing/storing/drinking your own alcohol here is strictly forbidden ! they say its due to licencing laws but its really to ensure you buy from the pub.. so don't expect any 'cheap' nights on the drink.**

Staying here, one can't help but feel that the owner/manager will try almost everything to squeeze the last penny out of guests. Unfortunately the same kind of enthusiasm is not applied to guest service, mgr attitude or general helpfulness even. If not for the great bunch of hired young travellers working for peanuts there, I'd say my stay sucked. But, all in all, if you don't mind playing musical matresses when the YHA inspector arrives, and you carry more dollar coins than a poker machine for use of lockers, laundry, and inet , you'll soon forget that the nearest 'real' supermarket is 15km away, and those hot sweaty nights battling 7to1 odds to claim a ripped seat ona dumped sofa inside the dark, musty tv room will eventually become a sport for you. Yeah, I'd stay there again, but only cause I got so settled after 4 weeks, coping .The mgr/optr have to learn that a profit can still be made, providing a fun, enjoyable environment for travellers ! Geez, spend $200 on the tv room PLEASE ! Atleast a light globe and can of airfreshener then ??
