This hostle is in the middle of being renovated which is why I didn't give it 5stars. The staff are really friendly and the dorm that I stayed in was really nice, clean and tidy. The hostel itself is quite quiet with maybe a slightly older age group, around 23yrs upwards, but its nice to relax and all the pubs and shopping malls are within 5mins of walking. The bus station is about 15mins walk but if you ask then the owners are happy to give you a lift. Also the hostel has a really cool underwater scene on its front wall which deserved one star just for character.

I loved it there, the people were so nice and the couple that run it are fantastic and really helpful. I would definately recommend a stay there if you visit Townsville, it's not far from the centre and there is a pub just across the road, and plenty more within 5 minutes walk. Reef Lodge is clean, tidy, friendly and when I was there in the process of renovation so it should be even better when you get there. I would definately stay there again.

This was definitely one of the best hostels I have stayed in so far .. it is not a lively party animal place so if your looking for that you will not like it, but being smack bang in the middle of town you can find clubs and pubs five minutes walk away .. its well chilled out relaxed and quiet .. the people (staff and other guests) were all very friendly and there is a tv area, good communal bbq and a laundry, you even feel like you can trust hanging your clothes out on the line! .. i believe all rooms are air conditioned (mine was) and also provided were a fridge, kettle and omg carpet! .. was fantastic .. the only thing missing was a mirror in the room .. us girls need to do our hair ;) .. if i go back to townsville, this is where i will stay
